anybody here running factory front air conditioning in their burb, and not runnning any rear air with it? If so, I wanted to know how good or bad it works for you. and if you have made any upgrades to the factory front air, can you please share this also???

subscribed to this post, I have factory air in my burb but haven't had time to see what it would take to work and I wouldn't add rear air (personal preference).

I have factory a/c. Front and rear. I have the rear disconnected due to a freon leak. I isolated my problem August last year. Finished out the year on just the front a/c. Using just the front a/c so far this year. It's ok, but just ok. I'll be running new lines and getting the rear a/c back on line as soon as my welfare check arrives.

So long as you are not in the back seat(s), it is ok. If you carry more passengers than will fit in the front, it is not so good. There is too much interior volume and too much glass for the front unit alone to be effective. In my opinion they were over worked in Blazers, so they just don't cut it in the Suburbans. Keep in mind this is on the surface of the sun here, so things may be different where you are if ambient temperatures are lower.

I remember speaking with a representative at VintageAir about a complete front/rear A/C setup... they seemed to have it pretty well understood and it also seemed like adding the rear setup could be done later on if you decided to just to A/C up front as an "experiment"...

I'll subscribe just to hear the rest of the feedback. Someday I'll have working A/C in mine.

I had an 84 with front air only when I lived in Yuma, Az. It had tinted windows, R12. It worked AWESOME for me... cant say much about the rear seat, never rode there. I have my 91 with front air only now. It is an R12 system, but it is getting converted to R134a this week. It has no tint, I will update on how that works out. On the '70 I am putting in rear air but I am fabbing up my own housing because I dont like the looks of the factory boxes or the fact that the air return is at the back window... that will be in my build thread.

When I had spoken to VintageAir about a setup for the 'Burb, they told me if I wasn't too worried abut originality, that the new system they had, IIRC the gen 4, would be able to cool the whole thing down from just the front. That's the route I'm going to take......
