Semi top-chop 55-59

i've been sitting around looking at pics of old trucks and got an idea. i wonder if anyone has ever done it before.

i've always liked the 55-59s but the windshield is taller than the door glasses.

so i'd like to cut out the roof of the cab but leave about 1" around the outer edges, chop the roof pillars, and just lower the very front of the cab about 2 inches and blend it all back in without cutting the door frames.

then chop the windshield. just to bring the cab-brow down to match the door frames better.

does this make sense?

i can draw a picture of what i'm talking about and scan it on my sister's computer if that would be better.

i think it would be a subtle custom look without changing the classic lines of the truck.

Sound good to me. I'm not sure if I've ever seen it done. Might be worth getting someone on here who does the photoshop thing to help you out (and us too as well). I'm sure if you posted a good shot of your truck someone could photochop it for you.

This is a technique used to chop the 55-59 chev trucks that I have seen a few times. I plan on doing this to mine. I've been looking for a post of a build that a guy did that performed these mods as well as a few more. He also removed the drip rails, and sectioned 2 inches from below the window frame and another 2 inches from the bottom of the door. I can't seem to find it though. I'll keep looking and post it if I find it. Scott

There was a post on here awhile back about a 56 gmc truck on a s-10 frame that he had done very extensive body work to. One of the mods he had done was chopping the top just like what you said you wanted to do.He removed a section of the pillar to drop the top without having to modify the front windshield. It dropped the top 2"-3" I believe. I have been looking for this build but can't find it. I had saved it to my favorites but the site was shut down because of a viruse. The shop I believe was called SoCalCustoms. I believe I have one picture of the truck if you need it.

Unless your a skilled fabricator and have worked with curved windshield chops before don't do it
most task force chops end up scrapped or on ebay as parts
