1967 C50 Brake problem

I have an ongoing problem with the brakes on my 67 Camper (School bus). Every once and a while when I step on the breaks, it's like stepping on a over ripe banana. I get the same results as stepping on the banana too! This does not happen all the time. Most of the time you can pump them up at the start of the day and they work fine. But it sure makes life "exciting" when they don't work.

I have replaced all wheel cylinders, break lines, booster and master cylinder. I have bleed them, set and reset until I can do it in my sleep. Still the same problem.

It has a single master cylinder and I would like to replace with a dual, but, I can't seem to find one. (I wonder if this would correct the problem.)

I need some help!

What ended up on your research on the master b/c?
I have a 68 c50 single cylinder and it leaks from the top. It has no gasket or seal and I'm guessing it should have one but no idea where to buy one. Any ideas?

$0.02

went through 2 MC's before getting one that was rebuilt correctly on an IH truck... top end rebuilds too, not duralast.

Hey Jeff, any chance you could get me a pic of your gauges or do you know of any buses available for parts? I have a C-10, but I have a crazy idea to use the giant bus speedo and quad gauge. Any help would be great!!!!

P.S. - I would definitely switch to a dual res M/C... at least for safety sake.

Re: 1967 C50 Brake problem

It does concern me with the single cylinder master. Hauling a load of 5 tons and not braking doesn't sit well with me. As always, it's a question of what works well as an upgrade for a truck that has few available part stores that carry anything.

What model of IH did you get the Master B/C out of? Like always I need something with a reservoir capacity for this size of a hydraulic system.
