Clutch Head v Phillips Head
I need some advice on the type of bolts to purchase for the rear fenders of my '64 SB Fenderside. The bolts that were on the truck before disassembly were hex head.

Oops! These would be the bolts that mount the rear fender to the bedsides.

I have a 1966 GMC fenderside. When I took mine apart, the bolts were 5/16"X 18 coarse thread with phillips head. The bolts appeared to be the originals. I don't think clutch head bolts were used on our trucks. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

My 1960 GMC stepside originally came with clutch head fender bolts. I replaced mine with conventional hex head bolts. Not sure when or if the factory ever did the same. If originality isn't important, button head allen socket screws would be much easier to install and remove than the clutch head style, while remaining snag free to anything loaded in the bed.

The early sixties trucks, used clutch head, both behind the door panels and on the rear fenders. I am not sure what year they were changed to phillips head.
