Re: Hood locking ideas
Maybe those pins that stick through a hole in the hood with a padlock on the outside will make a comeback. Very retro.

Hay markeb01 thanks for the link. How did you attach the chain to the hood?

Re: Hood locking ideas
Has any body tried connecting the lock to the actual latch? Just a thought.

Re: Hood locking ideas
I put a Hornet Lock on my '71. Great setup imo. I can take some pics if interest.

Re: Hood locking ideas
That is vary close to what I meant but for some reason my hood latch looks allot different than both of yours. I thik mine pulls up instead of forward but I will check.

Re: Hood locking ideas
Sillyoldman, you mentioned you installed the above hood lock - quick question for you: where it mounts in the cab - do you have to use the key every time you open the hood or can you leave the "in the cab" part unlocked so you never really need the key (i.e. kinda like a factory new vehicle interior hood latch)?
Thanks! jocko If the hood is locked then the ignition is also cut off. This setup is required to be unlocked to either open the hood or start the vehicle. I went to a car show one time and realized that I had forgotten the lock key. I kept a real close eye on that button all day. It can be installed wherever you like as long as the cable is long enough. It seemed to blend in under the steering column best for me. Here's a few pics. Hope this helps. IIRC I bought the 6' kit.

Re: Hood locking ideas
I need to get a picture of it but my truck had what looks like a factory or dealer installed bracket, that allows a small lock to be placed thru the release handle and the bracket, locking it so you can't release it. It is a stamped piece and bolts into the same location as the latch assembly and looks like something GM made, not some aftermarket/home made setup. I'll try to get pics tonight and post up but it works great.

Re: Hood locking ideas
Sorry for the delay but here is what is on my truck. Again, first time I have ever seen this setup but it does work great. Should be fairly simple to replicate. I think most of the hood release handles already have the hole in it, from what I have seen.
Looking up from underneith

Re: Hood locking ideas
That is very cool indeed. If it’s not factory, somebody went to a lot of trouble to make it appear so professionally done for something that will rarely be seen. That would be a great accessory for one of the aftermarket suppliers to produce, and as you mentioned it should be easy to reproduce.
Thanks for posting such detailed photos. |

Re: Hood locking ideas
Left my truck outside the shop one night last week and some tweekers cut the battery cables out to sell the copper for drug money so I like what TheDark1 did for a hood lock and made my own version.

Re: Hood locking ideas
Here's a simple but effective lock I put on my '67. I used 1/8 steel and used the factory hole on the support.

Re: Hood locking ideas
another idea, use a electronic mini actuator. somewhere in your custom trucks everyone has relay.
use the 5th pin to "go hot" when when the trucks parked. ad a toggle to the neg. side to over ride the actuator if you want to work on your truck without activating the electric choke. or just run it on relayed n toggle system. many ways on this platform. you can even get rid of your entire springs on the hinges. replace them with heavy duty actuators (metal gear type). many of them have built in limit switches. these really no way someone can over come two of them to open the hood. plus, now all you have to do is hit the switch to open your hood. these are just concepts and ideas. |
