B's 70 2wd Blazer

After helping my brother with his 69 C10, I was hooked. So, I sold my '62 Nova and picked up this '70 2wd Blazer. I don't want to call this a "build" thread since I don't have major fabrication plans for it, but I wanted a thread to track my progress and also ask questions.

I bought the blazer with a 67 front end already on it, 5 lug conversion and a Early Classics 4/6 drop. My immediate plans are to put in a painless wiring harness (which I have already started) and complete the interior. The truck was in running condition, so I'm hoping to have the wiring done soon so I can drive her again.

Thanks all! It's probably going to be a while before any paint goes on it, so I'll go through about 100 different color combos before then...but right now I'm leaning towards some type of orange with a darker grey top...I don't think I've ever seen that combo, but that may be for a reason...

Right now I'm still finishing up the painless wiring harness...got the engine bay done which looks like it was the easy part based on all the wires still left to go. It had a power steering box in it but no pump, so I got a pump on it yesterday, but I need a low pressure hose, belt and pulley to finish it off. I also have been picking up new pieces for the dash, so once I get the new bezel and lens, I'm going to clean up the dash.

I'll take some pics of the dash tonight so I get some nice before/after shots.

I've been cleaning and spray bombing the inside of the cab while doing the wiring. Heres a before and after pic of the gauges.



The wiring is almost done...just have to work out some bugs which are:
1. No brake lights (I have turns at the rear though)
-switch needed adjusting...couldn't press it down far enough with the motor off.
2. No tail lights
-horn fuse blew...didn't know it was connected to the tail lights and I didn't check it since I don't have a horn.
3. Gauge lights are on once the key goes on (they turn off I turn the dimmer to it's brightest setting, but they are always dim other than that and do not get brighter)
-new switch and now they work like they are supposed to. The dimmer doesn't make them brighter/darker, but maybe that's because I put in LEDs...

For #1, I found I don't have power going to the orange wire at the brake switch, but that's as far as I've gotten.

Got the blazer back on the road yesterday, I'll get some pics of the progress this week (I was too tired to clean it up).

What's been done so far:
1. Painless wiring kit installed (glad that's over!)
2. Cleaned up cab area
a. Removed remnants of welded in rollcage on floor boards
b. Patched hole for floor shifter (it has a high hump...weird for a 2wd but I guess not impossible)
c. POR-15'd the floors
d. Sanded/spray bombed dash doors and steering column (just a light coat to make it one color and hopefully not enough to piss off the paint guy when that time comes)
e. Cleaned up gauge cluster and got all but 1 gauge working
3. Removed factory a/c from firewall
4. Installed Lokar column shifter linkage
5. Installed ps pump and lines (PITA...it should not have been that hard...haha)

This week's plans:
1. Install door mirrors
-It has the holes, but no nuts on the inner sheet metal...I was going to just use some nylon nuts but any other suggestions are welcome!
2. Patch firewall a/c holes (just gonna rivet a couple plates in for now)
3. Install a temporary temp gauge
-The stock gauge jumps (gotta check the connection), but after my drive yesterday, the upper hose felt hotter than I expected..I want to see what the true temp is.
4. Figure out why the dummy brake light is on
-I have no idea what this light is telling me, but it's on. I have brakes, but it does pull to the right at first when they are applied (front discs, rear drum with booster set up).

The stock mirrors use metal backing plates on the inside of the door with threaded holes for the mirrors. The door panel does not have nuts on the inside. If you buy new mirrors the backing plate comes with them. If you already have the mirrors, you can find the backing plates at pick and pull.

There's never a 67-72 truck in my pick in pull...went 2 days ago and nothin. I also went to my local shop and they never heard of a backing plate... I did get them on though with the nylon nuts...PITA, but they won't come off till paint'n time.

I did some cleaning up...lots of rust on the wheels, but steel wool and chrome polish got them presentable.
