tire / wheel pics and size info thread
Gents,
I'm pretty sure such a thread already exists - but I couldn't find it. I'd find it way useful if there was a thread that showed pics of people's wheel/tire combos that ALSO included all the specs (i.e. tire size, make, wheel size, make, etc) and listed any any problems experienced (if any) such as "couldn't fit disc brakes with these wheels" - or stuff like that. So rather than keep digging, I'll start a thread and someone will probably paste in a link to former similar threads. Here goes: 6 lug truck rallies with Mastercraft P255/70/15s all the way around. Stock drum brakes Not a whitewall fan, and do have some stock 66 steelies I'm going to stick on here soon. Anyone know the widest tire that will fit on the stock 66 steel wheel? (225-70-15 or 235-70 (or 75)-15 is what I have in mind. (ok, you found me out, THAT'S why I'm proposing a wheel/tire thread - a good reference for all, but I'm trying to decide near-term!) Gracias. Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
and i think 215 is the widest width for a stock steelie...i thought i read they're 15x5.5
if they're 15x6, then you could do the 225 or 235 |

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
excellent - that's the one I'd seen awhile ago and couldn't find - thanks very much! And you're right about the size - it's 15x5.5, and I was afraid 225 wouldn't fit - most tire shop reference stuff says 15x6 minimum for 225s. Oh well... 215 75 15s it is...
Is there a pic of your 205 75 15's in the thread likaroc? If not, would like to see them on the truck. Last edited by jocko; 07-11-2010 at 12:20 AM. |

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
they just say Mastercraft "P794" on them - no specific model name or anything like that on them. I was surprised to fine out they were 255/70's - they don't look "that" big, but they do a nice job of filling up the wheelwell.
http://www.mastercrafttires.com/html...&artw=70&rd=15 I tried to find them online for you - but I see no whitewalls either, only RWL and OWL. Maybe they don't make them anymore. If you google the P794, you'll find a lot of recall info - but that's only for the a small P185 tire. And I scuffed one of them up today - that did not make me happy. |

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
I have been a Mastercraft Tire distributor for over 10 years and the "P794" (introduced in July of 1994, hence the name) has been discontinued by the mfg (Cooper Tire).
Great tire but it is gone. Last edited by blackedoutharley; 07-12-2010 at 05:09 AM. |

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
Try googling diamondback classic radials. I think their web is dbtires.com. Sorry no linky. Thin wide or wider white walls in various sizes on there. Check it out.

I really like that look with white wheels and no hubcaps.

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
I was running 225x 75's on my 5.5 inch wide rims till I put the 225's on my 7 and 8 inch rallies. Fit and handled great on the narrow rims.

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
Boucher Racing and Geezer - thanks very much, exactly what I needed. I'd prefer 235/75s on my stock wheels - but mine are 5.5 inch rims per the books, so probably gonna go with 225/75s just to be on the safe side. That's what I was looking for - someone who had done it successfully with no problems, and sounds like you both have, but with my wheels being 5.5's, gonna probably go 225.
As for color - I agree with Markeb, I really like the white wheels also - but my truck is 2-tone lt blue/white - so they "should" be light blue rims. Have to say I like the white rims bare with no caps on a solid color truck (like yours Boucher) or all black on a solid color truck (like yours Geezer), but I think I might go with white on the 2-tone truck anyway, just to be a little different (and that way won't have to go mix paint, etc etc). Still thinkin on it, but probably gonna go blackwall tire (if I can ever find one that doesn't look too modern with funky sidewalls...) and then white wheels with mid-70's basic cap. Cheap, simple, good looking (or at least I think so...) Gotta get those on so I can then re-do my rallies! Thanks again folks, great help. Last edited by jocko; 07-15-2010 at 08:07 PM. |

Re: tire / wheel pics and size info thread
thanks geezer - dback offers one completely smooth blackwall, almost seems kinda odd, but somewhat what I'm looking for.
likaroc - I agree, and I love BFG TA's - I will probably put them on my rallies (if I can ever straighten out the friggin center cap problem I've got (see other recent thread....) but hoping to find a decent blackwall tire both inside and out. Tempted to just reverse my Mastercraft 255 whitewalls and spray paint them... have read afew threads about blacking out ww's but would prefer to find a black tire. |
