Re: power steering? is it worth it?
Manual steering is great for driving around. Your way less likely to oversteer and you can feel the road a lot better. Parking is the issue. You have to plan where your going to put the truck. So long as your moving turning the wheels wont be bad but sitting at a dead stop is the problem.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
Cars have had manual steering for a lot of years.Up into the 90's it was still possible to buy a brand new car with manual steering. Most race cars have manual steering for the weight savings. The box is lighter plus you get rid of the pump and the lines. If your not planning on driving it around daily it wont be much of a hassle.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
Whichever way it was setup already I would probably keep it that way. To me losing a few pounds and gaining a couple horsepower isnt worth losing the convience of being able to easily park.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
I had power steering on my chevelle and took it off in the search for power and weight savings, I kept the power unit just in case but have had it in the corner for 5yrs now. I have to say that i miss it even just driving around but manual ain't so bad. my only problem is i put the line lock on my steering wheel and if you make more than 1 turn the cord gets tangled on the turn signal handle

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
My 63 had power on it when I bought it with the SBC.. It was horible!!! I kept it at first with the LS1 swap. It would not come back to a straight line.. Kept left or right, where ever I had pointed the wheel. I had as much caster as posilbe. Still would not return. Went to a manual box.. What a difference!! I have a 205/28 tire in the front and it is easy to turn. Would never go back in the truck!! Much more of a positive feel when doing triple digits..

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
I have a bypassed power steering box on my race truck and it is pretty hard to turn when I have my normal wide street tires on. But when I run skinnies on my truck (it looks like you do too), turning feels super easy. I've been told that a manual box is easier to turn than a "dry/bypassed" power steering box. I haven't bought a manual box yet, but I will when I find one in my area cheap enough. I say go for it.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
Manual box will build you or your ol lady some muscles around town. Mostly highway or drag race, manual is great. Alot of around town you will be happy with power. i dont miss my manual trans or steering since i changed. All i need now is AC.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
Yes a quick ratio box is like 12:1 and a lock to lock is 2 turns if I remember correctly. If you dont want the fluid all in one unit they sell one with a tiny pump on the engine with the fluid res mounted anywhere you want.

Re: power steering? is it worth it?
I had my power steering hooked up,first pass down the track truck was all over the place on the top end.Took the belt off and now it is 100 times better,a little tough on turns but thats ok.Just put the belt back on for the street.
