Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
It runs and drives great. The diesel purrs and the TH400 shifts good and firmly. It needs a driver's side vent window and has a few small dents but it is overall in pretty nice shape. I got out there and cleaned it up. The CARC paint is pretty oxidized, but it looks great wet. I have planned on going back with the Camo paint scheme (it actually has "Special Paint - Camoflauge" on the SPID) but seeing it look like this is making me reconsider just going baxck with a fresh coat of OD green and going back the stars, bumper numbers, tire pressure numbers. It is blast to drive, and draws a crowd wherever I go!

Here is what the original NATO pattern camo looks like. It looks great too. I found the patterns online to help get the pattern correct.

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
Do you mean the antenna mounts on the side? They are actually bolted on, and I think I'm going to retain one of them and run a "miltarized" CB set up. The one of the driver's side is bent, and it missing the guard. I'm going to run the miltary antenna base like one below, but I'm going to machine something to mount the whip to that base. The guy that owns that truck painted a CB OD green and it looks pretty slick. My truck has that same radio bracket, so it needs something there. I think I'll do something similar, except I'd like to use an old school CB with round knobs.

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
Thanks guys, I love it. Buying something from Government Liquidation is quite an adventure (especially the first time) but now that I'm in system, I can get it much quicker than ther first time. I bought this thing before our house burned back in April, and I finally got approved to go get it on July 22nd. I have less than $1700 to buy it (including GL's 10% seller premuim and sales tax) and cost to go get it, so I can overlook the window, regulator, and small repairs it needs. I got a set of tow shackles for it today since it was missing them. It truly drives like a new one. It purrs at 75 on the interstate with the 3.08's (the M1008 trucks have 4.56's with no OD) and it so far proving to be great on fuel.
I have a Banks Sidewinder turbo set-up that I'm going to put on it eventually, but I'm going to get it painted and get some nice tires on it before I do that. I'm torn between solid OD green, OD camo, or desert tan camo. I'm not a big fan of just the straight desert tan. They look like a faded beige Blazer to me. I'm pretty sure I'm going with OD camo, but that desert camo looks great too. What do you guys think?

I think you should copy the paint in post #2. That was nicely done IMHO.

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
Yeah, I agree that look is hard to beat, and that is correct and how it came. If you notice, the OD and tan camo trucks below basically match the NATO pattern on the drawing. The correct camo paint appears to have a goose head on the driver's door. -lol

From best I can tell, They mount through dash pad into metal dash behind. I'll try to investigate it further this weekend and let you know. This is the equipment that was originally in the M1009.

Try www.steelsoldiers.com also for questions about CUCVs.
Nice truck! BTW took a 160 mile trip in my M1028a1 CUCV yesterday. It is bone stock, NP205, TH400, 4:56s, stock LT235/85R tires. Great for the mountain roads but not much for the interstates like your M1009 blazer.

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
It was pretty tame, 350/700r/208....D44/14 axles. I had a d60 waiting to go in it but I sold the truck before that happen. 9" of lift, 40" TSL's, 10pt roll cage,10,000 lbs winch. It was a fun truck,It drove ok on the street but it became to much of a pain with the fuzz.

Though the pics are much worse than I hoped, I snapped a few pics of the blackout lights tonight. It pretty neat, and look mean sitting out there in the dark with just those little red and orange LED's shining!

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
WWW.GOVLIQUIDATION.COM THEY ARE AN ONLINE AUCTION HOUSE FOR ALL KINDS OF SURPLUS STUFF. YOU BUY DIRECTLY FROM THE U.S. GOVERNMENT & PICK IT UP AT AN ARMY BASE. YOU HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH SOME HOOPS & IT TAKES ABOUT 60 DAYS & HAVE TO BE APPROVED FOR EVERY AUCTION. BUT M1009 3/4 TON BLAZERS & M1008 5/4 TON PICKUPS TYPICALLY START AT $150 & WIND UP AT AROUND $2000 -$3000 FOR A LOW MILLAGE WESTERN TRUCK. RIGHT NOW THEY ARE RELEASING A TON OF THEM & HAVE AUCTIONS LOCATED ALL AROUNG THE COUNTRY. ONE NEAT THING IS... THEY CAN NEVER BE EXPORTED OUT OF THE U.S. & ONLY SOLD TO U.S. CITIZENS. I BOUGHT A M1009 A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. CHECK IT OUT..L. YOU'LL BE AMAZED. JOHN

Re: Finally got my M1009 Military Blazer from Government Liquidation!
I love the Blazer, however, I still think that maybe my high Sierra could match up to yall's rigs. tell me what ya think? I call her Ma-Deuce. Its a 1979 GMC High Sierra with a 87 Suburban Front Fenders and Hood. she has a stock 350, 4 Speed Manual Transmission with a 205 Transfer Case, 3ft Cherry Bomb Exhaust ending under the cab. And Riding on 38 Super Swampers, I just found out that both axles are not Dana but the GM Original Axles for a 88 K5. Both are 3/4 ton. I do know her original color was blue, but I live in a place where I use this rig for hunting and just having fun. I do know that the back axle is 3.73 gears, but that is about it, I bought this one for $1500.00.

K5 Blazers only came in 6 lug 1/2 ton versions. No 8 lug K5 Blazers from the factory. I have had over 20 K5 Blazers and ALL of them were 1/2 ton 6 lug. I even drove a CUCV K5 in the Army. Still only 1/2 ton with Gov't lockers. |
