inner fenderwell idea...?...

I was thinking of this the other day.

I wonder if a set of inner fenderwells could be fabbed up to fit inside what is currently in our trucks?
kind of like the big round ones that are used on 67-72, or the 73-87's.

our inner fenderwells end high up on the cowl, which leaves the cowl to act as the fender well.
this exposes the fender brace and corner of the cowl to the elements, which is probably another reason rust is so bad in these areas.

the thing that got me thinking about it is my tires like to pick and throw rocks, when the rock hits the floorboard/toe panel, it usually startles me , and scares the kids... I was thinking a inner fender would cut down on that, and then got to thinking of the rust issues too...

anyone already done ths?

1: Seen a picture where a guy took a sheet of rubber and followed the contour of the fender opening. He had it attached by plastic plugs to the outer fender lip and inside fender.

2: Sprayed mine with Line X, we'll see how that does.

Jon,

I am with ya. I was wondering if a guy could start with a trailer fender and then fab additional pieces to tie into the stock inner fenderwell. Entire deal could then bolt in.

In addition to the cowl area this would also help keep mud and crud out of the front headlight area.

take a look at the inners on your 69 camaro, I have a 70, and they have a nice round one that might fit up in there, they are real light tin, so easy to fab with....

Thumbs up Re: inner fenderwell idea...?...

John,

This has been in my plans for a while now. When I get my truck back on the road I would like to have this done. My father and I made a templet , but not sure if we will use it. It has been hard to find trucks online in our years to go by. But this is what I found so far, and will be similar to what I will be doing. See below.

Re: inner fenderwell idea...?...

I've had those same thoughts Jon, but I haven't done anything with it other than acquire a couple sets of '67-'72 and '73-'87 inner fenders. Let us know if you get something figured out.

Re: inner fenderwell idea...?...

I know I'm resurrecting this thread but I've thought about lining my wheel wells with plastic for awhile now. Wondered if anyone had made any headway? I think I remember someone buying some cheap plastic sleds that could be cut and molded to fit. I'd like to have the lining extend back and under the cab floor (from the edge of the inner rocker to the cab support).

Ideas?
