8 lug mag wheel center cover?

Are there some kind of cool center covers I can find for these old front and rear 8 lug mag wheels? The front center caps that are on there now are kind of bent up...

or should i paint them? If so, what color?

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

I didn't use center caps on mine, just painted everything behind the wheels black. If you go with something besides black, I'd pick something that will stand out. Ever think of painting the inside of the slots?

I like yours without the center cap, I think if you paint the slots on your wheels i'd do it the same color as your truck that would look good powdercoat it.

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

@ 87 V20 Scotsdale, I just bought a "Power Cone" polisher attachment for my drill today. I plan on polishing the heck out of mine 'til they shine like crazy. That goes for the inside of the slots too. I have always envisioned painting the centers black like you did but I've also considered a silver color also. Are there no caps that are offered for these?
Who makes the wheels you have on your truck? Those are super nice. If you don't mind, did you buy those or did they come with the truck?

Here is the plain chrome center cap that more than likely came with those wheels.

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

Yes...there are center caps that are made that can be used for that application.....I took a wheel down to Summit and tried about everyone they had to find the correct bore. I will save you the hours of R&D.....the bore on those should be 4.75 depending on the make of them. Now I have a Dana 60 rear so I needed deep ones....they come in 3 or 4 depths. My wheels had a slight rolled edge in the back. This told me the caps I needed would slide in from the back and have a little rolled lip to hold it in instead of a flat flange.

My deep ones part # are CLL-CS211 @ Summit

By the way....are those 16's or 16.5's

They made 16 inch ones?

GreenCoyote I've seen insides of slots that have been painted black, red, and yellow. I've thought about painting mine some shade of gray. I think the centers looks good un-covered on the older trucks, as long as the rear axle is a FF.

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

Thanks for the link TexasJeff.
Thanks NBPRO.
What is a FF rear end 87 V20 Scottsdale?

And yes, I do think they look pretty good without caps on these older models. Just want to clean them up if I dont use the caps.

Anyone have more photos of these style rims using the caps on the front and rear?

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

A Full Floating rear end has the hub that sticks out past the wheel, where a 1/2 ton or some 3/4 tons have Semi-Floating rear ends. The hubs on them do not stick out.

Re: 8 lug mag wheel center cover?

This thread looks like a slot mag reunion!!!! I just went down to the 4x4 truck supply store and picked out these. They are probably a bit to long, but I'll think about shorter ones later. They slide in from the rear and have a small lip like was said.

You mean there are other kinds of rims out there? The only other rims I like on these trucks are turbines and the wide steelies.

I'm having trouble finding some 16" 8 lug slotted mags like you all have.

Anyone have a brand or recommend a place to order them?

Thanks

They haven't been made since the rock'n 70's!!!!! I found mine on Ebay. BTW, they are all 16.5 wheels. I think the two popular width sizes are 8.25 (like mine) and 9.75. Tires are limited because they are more of a commercial size. I LOVE mine, but may wind up with some nice 16's and more tire choices later....
