1955 GMC 100 & 150 Differences

Just wondering what the differences were between the GMC 100's and 150's in 1955 to 56. I thought they were the same but I might be wrong. Thanks

Mechanically, the V-8 engines are different - 287 in 55 and 316 in 56. I believe the inlines were the same for both years. Bodywise, I can't answer.

Re: 1955 GMC 100 & 150 Differences

The 55 GMC six cylinders were 288 and 370 in 55. The 288 was discontinued in 56. The 55s have a filler panel between the signal and bumper. The custom cabs had this panel chrome and the panel between the bunper guards was chrome also. These were white on standard cab. At the end of 55 they sold 55s as 56s and painted these panels body color. The fillers below the signals were deleted in 56. The lower grill on 56s have a dip in the back (to get your hand to the hood latch easier). The air cleaner on 55 V8s was smaller than 56-59s. The frame on 56-59 GMCs is flared up at the steering box (55s are like a Chevy in that area) for clearance of a power steering box (Chevys did not offer true power steering). 56 and 57s had two big bars that go from the fire wall down to the frame, 55s did not. 55 standard cabs had chrome emblems and 56-59 were painted. 55 custom cab trucks had the steering column and shifter painted interior color and 56-59 they were light grey, also arm rest bases were interior color on 55 and white on 56-59. 55 six cylinder trucks were six volt systems and 56 went to 12 volt with key start (no foot starter like Chevys). The horns on a 55 looked similar to 55-57 Chevys. The 56-59 horns look similar to 58-59 Chevys. I can not think of anything else at the moment, I am sure there are other differances.

Is the 100 a shortbox halfton and the 150 a longbox half ton like the Chevy 31 vs 32?

No, the 150 is a 3/4 ton. One of them lives near me. It has 8 lug wheels and an H052 rear.

Re: 1955 GMC 100 & 150 Differences

I was asking because I've seen them both ways 150 as a shortbox. 100 as a shortbox both as 1/2 tons also saw one 150 as a 4x4. Doesn't mean someone hasn't swapped out some emblems or front clips either.
