Re: disc brakes for a 60-62
Is your disc brake kit 5 or 6 lug, and is it fitted to the original torsion bar suspension or a later coil spring front end?

I believe you won't be able to use any 6 hole wheels that were originally for drum brake trucks. They will have to be either aftermarket wheels or OEM's that were originally on '71 and newer 6 lug applications. I would think that a standard backspacing for a given width of wheel should clear the calipers.

Re: disc brakes for a 60-62
Post #6 on the following thread explains the interference problem with drum brake wheels on disc brake applications:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=wheel+caliper And the following link shows a line drawing in the center of the page illustrating a drum brake rim on the left and a disc brake rim on the right. The wheel on the left is demonstrating a reversed rim, but to understand the stock configuration - as drawn, the back of each wheel is facing each other. The tapered shape that causes the interference is obvious on the left wheel : http://www.rallyamerica.com/taperchrome.html Last edited by markeb01; 09-06-2010 at 04:25 PM. |

Re: disc brakes for a 60-62
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if discs will clear vintage 5-slot 6-lug aluminum wheels?

Re: disc brakes for a 60-62
What I meant is that the standard backspacing of a wheel is going to be different for a given width. For example, a 7" wide wheel is going to have less backspacing than a 8" wide wheel. As long as you're running at least a 15" diameter wheel that is intended for disc brakes, and you're running the typical 11.5"-12" diameter rotors, you shouldn't need any wheel spacers.
