Going to make the LSx plunge.
Well after much internal debate and talking to myself I have decided the direction of the truck for the 17th time. I think I have a solid plan this way and it should perform good and ride like a dream. I have 2 questions that I wanted input from the 73-87 guys. 1st- I want a good performance suspension that will not beat me up for daily driving. I want it to handle the corners fairly well and be able to hook at the dragstrip. I have thought about going with the CPP trailing arm kit and matching front suspension components or going with the ART kit like Ken(N2Trux) has on his truck. What would you do and why?
2nd- What transmission? Auto? Manual? My plans for a motor right now are 6.0 with upgraded internals, cam, heads and possibly a supercharger. I am staying with fuel injection for drivability. Help me out please!!!

Re: Going to make the LSX plunge.
I will start gathering parts during my deployment early next year and start the build process when I get back stateside. I just need to figure out which route I am going to go with for suspension. I will have the truck brought to a body shop a couple months before I get back to get all the bodywork done. I have an idea for paint but that always changes and won't be finalized until it is painted.

Re: Going to make the LSX plunge.
LQ4 or 9 6.0l, if I had the money to go with the LSX block then I would make it a 454.

Re: Going to make the LSX plunge.
My budget will be in the $12,000 to $15,000 range so if I went with the ART suspension that would eat up almost half my budget. I am thinking trailing arm suspension and updated front suspension with more money to go towards the motor/tranny and body work.

Re: Going to make the LSX plunge.
I see... I thought you were buying an LSX block from the title of this thread...
Nothing wrong with the LQ4 or LQ9's... what fuel injection system are you looking at ? |

I know what I am talking about, that is why I questioned it... LS blocks genIII or genIV LS1,2,3,6,7,9,LQ4/9, LM7 are not referred to as LSx. the are LS blocks and you are very correct about the LSX block LSX = GMPP Sportsman block rated at 2k+ horsepower w/6 bolt per/cyl. head support, true priority main oiling, big bore/long stroke (up to 4.20"-4.25" bore & 4.50" stroke?) capability up to 480+ ci short deck, 510ci+ tall deck iron block. Re: Going to make the LSX plunge.
Apparently you don't "know what I am talking about". The LS series of motors has been referred to as LSx motors long before the GMPP LSX even existed. It was a term coined years ago to give a generic description to the LS motors.

The OP titled the thread "Going to make the LSX plunge" I was simply wondering if he was going to use a GMPP LSX Block for his Build.. I don't understand all the attacks though??? |

Re: Going to make the LSx plunge.
I am going to make some upgrades to the stock style injection. I am really hung up on what trans and suspension to run. I really enjoyed the dragstrip when I went a few months ago. If I go manual I am afraid that I will lose some 1/4 mile performance but it will also be a blast to drive it. If I get to caught up in the drag bug then I don't want to have to make serious changes but, I really don't know.

Re: Going to make the LSx plunge.
Polygraphite suspension components will do the trick. I have some on my truck. Going around corners or turn arounds is nuts. Tires give before the suspension. I can hear the tires squeal as they start to give. The truck stays relatively flat. The suspension pushes back causing the tires to give first. Daily driving is okay. My ride is a little stiff due to rear traction bars.

Re: Going to make the LSx plunge.
on a side note...I think sometimes it should be called 'interior prison'...we have some cars for a loooooong time...I can say that if we have a customer come in or call us alot, like once a week or more, we work on there stuff more regularly than the other full interiors in the shop...another thing that goes on is that they may be swamped there...we have 5 full interiors in the shop right now that need to be done...3 of them are full one of custom interiors...the cars are stripped inside...the other 2 are assembly cars meaning we have all the aftermarket stuff to put the interior together....

Re: Going to make the LSx plunge.
it's true...just trying to be honest...you should give them a call until they don't want you to call again...lol...if the work is shoddy just don't accept it and make them redo it...it's that easy...if they are a reputable shop, they'll make sure it's right now matter how much you bug them...I know we do...
