Chevy HEI distributor types
Does anyone know much about a gm ESC type distrubutor? Just wondering if this one takes a module. It has a 4 wire cable going into the base. I inherited it with the sbc engine i put in my 60. Just wondering if it takes a module, if not how does it get wired. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Didn't notice any modules when i pulled the engine for transplant, but didn't pay a lot of attention to wires.

Re: Chevy HEI distributor types
I don't know much about them, other than they can be a pos in the original installation. But I believe this is mainly caused by the ESC box on the firewall. There was another member having problems with his in his '86(?) truck over in the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section not long ago. Member cableguy0 helped him get it figured out and running much better. You might try sending cableguy0 a PM and see what he has to say as he seems to be knowledgeable on these distributors.

Re: Chevy HEI distributor types
I did a little reading on them yesterday after the post and i guess you can run a jumper between two of the wires and cancel the esc module, but the timing stays at base and will not advance properly when engine accellerates. Also wrecks the mileage. Think I'm just going to pick up a pre-esc unit at a bone yard. This thing just isn't worth the hassle and used ones are cheap, so problem solved, but thanks for your input.
