Dual Exhaust

Could someone post some pix of how they routed their dual exhaust on their 4x4? I am wondering how to run the pipe pass the front driveshaft and transfer case on the passenger side. I would like to keep all the pipes above the bottom of the frame.

My buddy Nick cut some steel for me according to a template he and I made to cover the hack job done on my cross member before. After welding, grinding, and a wee bit of putty, it turned out very nice.

You didn't mention if you have a 1/2T or a 3/4T, not sure how different the two are..

I can post a pic tonight or tomorrow how mine was done, i have a 3/4T 4X4.

I can tell you it snakes between the transfer case and frame rail, tight squeeze there were no cross brace mods done so different from the other pic's posted..

kinda depends on the year/ body style of your truck too... i know i ran dual 3" on my '84 1/3 ton 4x4 and it was a little tricky but it went up and over the transfer case with kind of an "S" shape bend. i know this isn't the greatest picture, but if you look at the header/exhaust on the right side it is sitting exactly how it was hanging in the truck.

Heres the best pic's i got, ya need to dissregard my temporary fix tho as the pipe was barly clearing the case and when it idled it would rattle against it, got a little annioying so i made a home made "puller" clamp to pull it away about 1/8". It starterd doing that after about 7 years, somehow it decided to sag downward a little i guess

Here's a pic from my Blazer. Not dual all the way back but it goes through the same area up front. There is room to make it happen.

Here's a picture of mine with the cab off. There is room there. Those are 2 1/2" pipes. Ignore the pipes heading outside the chassis, I squeezed some propane tanks in.

Billhilly please tell me what the plan is for the round strap clamps? Gas tank? Air tank?? enquiring minds.....

EDIT: Oh yea, like the way your pipe is routed way better than my $100 rush rush under the table job..

I was wondering the same thing. I want to run duals out of exhaust manifolds on a '73 longbed 4X4 and was curious as to how anyone could run the pipe over on the passenger side. Seems like starter R&I would be impossible without having the pipe run too low. I, too, want to run them above the frame. How in the heck did the factory do it???

When i got my truck it had the passenger side cross over to the driver side then into a single exhaust, cant remember exactly where it crossed over but behind the oil pan..

I just ran the dynomax kit on my 77 K10. Donno if they make a similar kit for your year. Worked well. Just be prepaird for warm floor boards!!!

Thanks for the pix guys. I was looking at the chassis without the cab on, and wasn't taking into account that the cab sits above the frame rail a couple inches. Anyone know how far I should keep the pipes away from an aluminum fuel cell, and if they get too close, what problems could I run into?

Donno the answer but would also like to know cause i have an alum fuel cell in route as i type.. need to rework my exhaust.

I don't think you'll have any problems but you may want to look into putting a heat shield on the tank and/or the pipe. The exhaust systems on most new cars sit very close to EVERYTHING so they have heat shields all over the undercarriage.

How far back is the fuel cell? If it's towards the back the tail pipes won't get that hot to worry about.
