Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

I need help, I have a 66 stepside that i want to lower with drop spindles and springs. It would help a lot if you guys could post (pictures and detailed drop info). Right now I'm leaning toward a 2.5" spindle and 2" spring in front and a 5" spring in the rear. I'm plaining on C notching the frame and installing CPP crossmember. If you have any input on the notch or croossmember I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your input.

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

Thanks for the replies.
Willyp, I talked to EC Friday about that drop. I have some questions...how does it ride, are you happy with the drop, would you like to go lower? Any alignment problems? How much room do you have between the frame and diff?
Thanks

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

The ride is great, yes I would always like to be lower but for a static drop I’m happy with it, the fitment of the wheels and tires with no rubs. The kit has all new shocks, springs and shock relocation kit to provide the original factory shock geometry. I also installed a front sway bar. The clearance in the rear is 1 1/4 inches from the rear bump stops to the axle and 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the frame to the axle. no rubs in the front full left to full right with the steering wheel and last night I crossed over a couple rail road crossings 50-60 mph with no issues or rubs. Had the front end alignment done last Monday and she drives straight as an arrow. 16X8 wheels all the way around and 235/70/16 front and 255/70/16 rear. Hope this helps.

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

The ground clearance from the bottom of the cab directly below the C10 badge on the front fender is 10 inches to the ground and the ground clearance from the bottom of the rear fender 2 inches forward of the rear bumper to the ground is 15 inches. Clear as mud?
Hope this helps.

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

Thanks for your help. I'm going to order the EC 4/6 it's a good starting point I would like to be a little lower maybe I cane ajust later. I just want to get going. To give you a little history on this truck, my father inlaw bought it in 1968 I think, in Pentalton Oregon (no rust), my wife and her siblings all drive it during there high school years.
I have had it for about two years so it's time to get going. I have bought a 1978 Chevy as the doner truck 454 th400. I have removed the doner engine cratel and suspention disassembled and sandblasted ready for paint. I picked up a steering colume out of a 79 chevy van I like to see the key in the stock loction. I hope this winter to get alot doon. Thanks again

This link should have some other photos as well

They do offer different springs for big block & small block (I'd prob still use small block springs either way) but I did not see any for 73-87. Wouldn't you need those instead of the 60-72 spings?

BTW thanks for the info willyp!

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

I thought I would do a up date. Received EC 4.5/6 drop kit and trans and trailing arm cross member they were great to deal with. Sand blasted all the parts and painted using POR15 and put it all back together. The next thing is the rear axle I'm trying to make up my mind on tire height and gear ratio. I'm thinking of a 26" tire and 3.42 gear. If anyone has any input please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Ready to purchase drop parts {PLEASE HELP}

What engine /trans combo are you running?
Now I see it, I think that sinse you are runnig big block I woul drop it to a 308 rear axle with 26 tall tires, if you want any kind of MPG...the engine torque will ove the truck.
