broke drag motor...???

Well we tore apart my buddies motor out of his 74 drag truck in progress, and we found a broken lifter, and one lifter that is mushroomed and will not come out of the block of course that lead to flat cam lobe but the delema is where did two bent rods come from.... Needless to say the 355 is becoming a 383 this winter and getting a 4.88 gear and manual vb glide with a trans brake. shooting for the 7,s in 1/8th mile in a full bodied truck.

Re: broke drag motor...???

That crap was everywhere. Bearings looked good still so where did the no oil cause the bend.

Yeah, if it didn't blacken the bearings I would not suspect an oil starvation,, I'm not seeing how it would cause bent rods tho . My thoughts would be RPM stretching the rod to contact with the head,, or coolant entering the chamber and compression / hydrolock at RPM. Motors do crazy things just as they are starting to come apart.
