A lot of tachs showing up on ebay
Usually might see one now and then but was browsing last night and came across five! Guess that also means there are another five square bodies no longer on the road.
Wish there were actual production numbers to know how many millions were produced. They still seem to be breeding somewhere with rust no longer an option! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/73-87...item3a5fe12253 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-...item5195eac696 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/80-87...item3a5fe11fa2 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/73-74...item1e5f4a2f60 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/73-87...item3a5fce515a Take your pick if so inclined. Enjoy the day, Mark

Re: A lot of tachs showing up on ebay
I'd like one for the 85 C-30 but the install would have to be dummy proof. There is one there that supposedly came from an 85-86 suggesting plug & play for the cluster but lacks the wiring for the tach.
I get confused easily if the parts are not all there. I've learned to use my ears with the C-30. Mark

Re: A lot of tachs showing up on ebay
If you get one from a 78+up, it will be a plug and play. The wiring for the tach is easy, even if you don't have the original wiring. One to a keyed positive, one for ground, one for TACH on the distributor.
I swapped a tach cluster into a couple trucks I used to have, one being an 87 that was injected, worked great. Shouldn't have sold the truck with them still in there.

One of them is a 7k tach, never seen that before. It also has a 100mph speedo with a VSS hooked to it? Can't say I've seen that before either. Granted I'm not very well versed in the 80 and down stuff.

Re: A lot of tachs showing up on ebay
That one is something that was built. The speedo is a regular 70s style, and the tach is out of a Camaro, dunno what year. VSS was just added on the back of the speedo.

Is that fairly easy to do on an older speedo? I plan to use a '77 cluster (complete with vacuum gauge and tach) in my K30 build, but would love to use the newer cruise system. Back of the 100 MPH speedometer is embossed for the sensor head...is it as easy as cutting the metal out, or is there more to it? Any info appreciated, thanks Joe Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: A lot of tachs showing up on ebay
I think you just need to thread it in. It's soft metal, so shouldn't be too hard....

Thanks for the reply. Mine isn't actually cut out for it though . Square hole is embossed, so it should point out where to cut. I think they all have the blade to read off of, just need to cut the hole for the head I guess. Thanks for the help, Joe P.S. - Weren't you the one I spoke with on Pirate a while back about a vacuum gauge? Posted via Mobile Device |
