FNG 72 K5 CST Project
First post here, the names Ryan and I am by far no mechanic and have zero fabrication skills, just here to learn as I go, Slowly.
Back story on the Blazer... This 1972 Blazer was my Grandfather's that he bought brand new. The original paperwork is still in the glove box! Then my Dad took it over and it sat in his driveway covered and sometime in a garage for 10-15 years. My dad was never and mechanical guy and never tried to get it going again. One day it blew power steering fluid everywhere because a line was cut and got all over the belts and wouldn't start. He was late for work, so got a ride then it end up covered in our driveway for a couple years. Then moved to a garage until I told him finally I'm taking it and getting it running. As far as he knows it's the original 350 rebuilt with low miles. But not sure on the exact mileage. The gas tank has been pulled by me years ago when it had a crack and I was a dumb kid and didn't know what I was doing, I did have the piece of mind to drain it and wash it out. I drained the oil and replaced it. It was black but nothing bad coming out if there. So it begins as they say. I'm looking forward to hopefully getting some advice and help along the way from you fellers. Anyway sorry the for the long post, but here she is with the top pulled on jack stands and some other work so far: Got headers in there now... New cap rotor wires Therm housing and thermostat... Got this dude for $50 Added a +2 QT tranny pan a while back I also replaced the whole Ignition switch and lock. That is a couple months worth of stuff right there. So yeah, it will be slow going, but it's goin!! Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks! Last edited by RLTW375; 11-15-2010 at 05:17 AM. |

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
Looks like a great Blazer. It is very cool that it is a "one family" Blazer that will touch 3 generations.

Looks good Ryan and great story. Be careful with that torch, you cut through a pretty valuable 4x4 only manifold. Good luck with the project. Trevor

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
My bad, it looked like it had been torched in the center. I wasn't trying to rude, just trying to help ya along. You will find certain things are 4x4 specific on your ride, and I would hate to see you damage them as sometimes the specific items can be sold for good profit to fund other items during the build or cannot be bought back very easily. Trevor

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
Welcome to the forum and great blazer to start with. Awesome that it has been in the family for so long. I wish I would have kept my original K5. I traded my dad for it to keep him from selling it but ended up having to sell it a few years later for financial reasons. Keep us posted on the progress.

It is a charcoal canister-part of the tank/emissions system.

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
Has anyone else installed an Edelbrock 2696 Q jet adapter? Do these double sided bolts need to be screwed in all the way? I see material starting to get pressed out.

You could specify what "little things" tho so someone could better assist you.

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
One thought? Shouldn't there be a thicker gasket between the bottom of the carb & plate? Seames to me I had a 1/2"er in there back in my carb days??

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
I haven't had a chance to run her due to lack of $$. But the gaskets I put on came with the kit. Have to see if there's any issues later I guess.

Re: FNG 72 K5 CST Project
She's been collecting dust and I've been makin babies! Literally I now have three kiddos running around and am getting ready to move. What better time to get back to work! Well I just ordered a poly tank from Wes at Classic Heartbeat and am looking to get back to work on this beast.
