Exhaust Manifolds

In case anyone is looking at exhaust manifolds instead of headers I thought I would show you a test fit of TBSS manifolds.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

Now I know why they call you the king! I surely wish i would have known how those fit when I was doing my swap, could have saved me alot of coin for headers and mounts. Thanks Rocketking!

Thanks for the compliment, Thealien put me one the trail of these and I hope it helps someone out, because I could not swing the headers myself right now either.

Sorry, the only set I have is the original manifolds off the LQ4. In my build thread you can see that my passenger motor mount is modified to fit the A/C bracket, it make the mount even more in the way than usual. So, if the TBSS manifolds will fit my application they really should fit almost anything.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

Looks like these manifolds will only work if you offset the motor back, is this the case?

IMO the pics make it look closer that it really is, I think they would fit regardless of engine placement. The reason I say this is because the new motor mount hole on my moded stand is angled downward (you can see it in my build thread) which means in the stock location it would actually raise the motor slightly allowing for clearance. In all the reading I have done I did not find an application that they did not fit. But, it is somewhat new and I am sure some designs would not work. But, I found these free online and just paid shipping. For that price, it was worth a try to me.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

those look like they fit alot better then the LY6 truck manifolds I have. They needed some grinding here and there...should have left them alone tho since I'm not using them now.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

Thanks for the info and pics Rocketking. I installed a set of these on my 68 last night and they fit like they were made for this swap. They do not hit anything, not even close. I should explain my setup. Truck is a 68 1/2 ton. I swapped in a 80 model complete front crossmember. I used the 80 model frame mounts along with the 80 model engine mounts. I had to modify the frame mount to compensate for the shorter frame height of the 68. Made the block adapter plates myself. I also used the original driveshaft by swapping the transmission yoke to fit the 4l60e. The engine is about 3 inches from the firewall. I did not mean to hi-jack just thought this might answer questions people may have. i know this would have answered alot for me before I started the swap. This truck was originally a 6cyl-3-speed.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

could you possibly take a picture from the left side that shows where these manifolds dup out in relation to the back of the engine? showing the back where the bellhousing bolts on to th engine. i am trying to see if these will work with my hydraulic clutch slave cylinder being in the way.
Thanks Lowell

If you go to the page 4 of my build thread I have two pics of the motor from the rear. I have a 4l80e and the "ears" will have to be cut off in order for manifolds to fit, but you can see where they dump out.
