75 C10 shortwide driver
I went into this project with the intension of a show truck, but after I built my 250r quad, I realized I don't know when to quit. I decided to make myself quit and build a decent driver. Every piece of front suspension is new/ rebuilt. It is going to have 20/22 inch bonspeeds, bagged with a KP Components 4-link/ cantilever. four wheel disc brakes. I started with a fairly clean 1975 GMC frame, had a few cracks where the front shocks mounted and where the power steering box mounts. Other than that it was pretty clean.

I wire wheeled the frame. 7 hours. poor choice of stripping for sure! HA!

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
I used POR 15 on the frame. I followed the directions and it looked great. I then decided to use the POR15 Chassis Coat. It then flattened out the shine, but looked as if there was brush marks. I am not sure I am happy about it. After I get the chassis complete, I am thinking about wet sanding it and coming up with something......

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
wow nice work, looks great. So it's 7 bolts on each side once the motor mount plates are removed to unbolt the whole front crossmember? That's pretty cool, I wondered how many held it in place.

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Got my valves and tanks mounted as well as ran some preliminary air lines until I figure out some other fitting options. I also got the front steering and suspension put together. I am having a couple issues, things to do prior to wrapping it up.
1- my bags rub a bit on my lower a-arms when fully decompressed. I'm thinking I need tubular lower a-arms...... 2- a-arms don't lay on the ground. I still have about 2 inches to go. I have tubular upper a-arms, because I think the balljoints are binding and not letting it lay out. 3- The rear of the frame sits about 8 inches above ground when layed out(without bumpstops) I have about a 6" notch. I'm thinking about adding another 4 inches to the rear notch. 4- I'm going to section my front cross member and modify my sway bar brackets. 5-rear fuel cell. 6-run brake lines. 7-finish air line layout with grommets/ cleaner fittings ect. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Its coming along great. Where did you pick up the POR15? I think I am going to have to use this when I do up my frame.
Keep up the great work. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Thanks guys! I've been wanting to get on this project for years now! I know it will never be done, but thats ok..
I got the POR15 off of ebay. We have a parts store called Baxters here that has it as well thats about the same price. Like I said above in my posts, I couldn't believe how amazing the stuff laid out and looked, my prep work was pretty much perfect. But then I tried putting their Chassis Coat black on top and it looks kind of like crap and didnt lay out smoothly.. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Hey man, have you thought about when you have the front aired up and the back down? Will that gas tank rub??
Other then that, your build looks great! your pretty much going down the same track as me, except I did a 3" z and just modified my lower control arms. How about some pics of how you are going to route your front air lines out of the bag and spring pocket?? |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Got uppers on and finally got all the bags plumbed last night. No more balljoint binding.
Going to finish running brake lines and fuel lines this weekend. I actually raised the tank. I was going to leave it low and adjust my bumpstops so it wouldnt drag, but my body man is going to raise the bed floor. |

Re: 75 C10 shortwide driver
Great build! Looks like your going the same route I am. I have a KP components rear setup just like you. If you get a second, could you pleaseeeeeeeeeee do me a huge favor and measure your panhard rod, from the center of the poly bushing to the end of the bar? I lost my panhard bar when moving my truck and KP wants 100 bucks for a new one, so im gonna make my own.
