Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

I bought the air lift auto pilot complete package for my 68 short box stepside a couple of years ago. Like alot of people out there I collected parts while I could and when I got time put them in... Well life with 2 kids kinda slowed things down.... Anyways finally got on track with the project and got the air ride in. Come to find that the brand new out of the box controler/display for the system didn't work, doesn't even power up. Now it is to late to get any kind of warranty and have to buy another controler..... NOT HAPPY!!!! The complete system is useless without the controler and now I can't even move the truck....

Sorry for the rant, but not to happy with air lift right now and the quality of this auto pilot........

I would however like to give thumbs up to Ricky at Suicide Doors for all the help he has given me....

Trevor

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

Have you contacted Air Lift?
Throw some schrader valves on your lines and air it up manually if you need to.

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

I did contact air lift and they said it has been over a year so there is nothing they can do. That is my fault I guess, but it still gets to me concidering it is new nd doesn't work...

Jon, I am away at work right now so I can not call you right now, but will next week. The display doesn't light up at all and all they got me to try was a new cat 5 cable.
Thanx for your help

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

You should be able to trouble shoot it with jon's help and fix it yourself.
It has to be a loose or broken wire or bad connection.

I had similar trouble when i hooked up my accuair system. I had it almost a year in the basement before i got around to installing it.
Nothing worked right when i got everything hooked up. After a few minutes of trouble shooting i realized that i had some broken wires between the ECU and valves. The wires looked fine, but they showed no resistance when i hooked up a multimeter...so i knew they were bad. I repinned new wires in the connectors and it worked like a charm.

All I can figure is some how someone stepped on the cables or set something on the cable in the time they were in the basement and they got damages.

Good luck and let us know how you resolve the issue.

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

I ran in to similal problem just as you had bought unit in advance year latter installed but one of the sensors way off base but i did hot wire the system when i bought it just read 0 on display then
as with you no offer to replace bad sensor and I informed them its a project offered pics showing not on road yet but no results I now try to keep this in mind when buying parts for the future but almost $500 that sucks

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

They offered to sell me one for like 78 bucks guess they wont get my business when I buy the two 380 compressors i will need The auto level requires more air than my shop compressor holds it must have at least 150 in tank for that feature to work

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

tk-mpl I am not sure whats going on, but something doesn't sound right with your system in general. How long does it take to fill your tank? Does one fill allow you to gain full lift from laid out? It sounds like you don't have enough tank volume, or your compressor isn't filling it full enough.

Re: Air Lift Auto Pilot-- project blues....

It has a 5 gallon tank and the compressor cuts out just over 170psi. It does have enough air to move the truck from full dump. It just took way to long to do its "tuning" setup. I do need a bigger tank and a bigger compressor cause I can't stop playing with it. LOL
I still can't get the "auto" setting to turn off. I turn it off and it seems to stay off for a couple of ign. cycles, but then it will start doing it again.
Ride height still won't save either
