LS - LQ9 - LQ4 Engine Covers

Hi guys,

- can I see what you have used for engine covers / or how they have been painted? (SS covers, Vortec covers, Escalade covers?? Corvette covers?)

- where have you found replacements to buy??

I need to find some as my engine didn't come with them, thanks!!

On my 5.3L I ran an LS1 Intake with Classic Corvette coil covers. Here's some pics:

Re: LS - LQ9 - LQ4 Engine Covers

I made mine. The first incarnation was just a cover. The second is more air filter and less cover...

^ thats unique. I got super excited for a second there I though you had a top mount intercooler lol (but then I couldn't find the turbo).
Very cool look though, do you have a cowl hood that feeds through?

Kind of sort of...the 55-57 GMC hood has a unique hole in the front that acts as a scoop. I have a billet insert in mine.

OKGMC, wont that hurt your drag? If it was open from factory I can see that but I would think it would be a huge air drag. But it is just an opinion, carry on!

They came with a grille insert to begin with but mine will look something like this. If I were too worried about aerodynamics I would have kept my Trans Am and stayed away from an old truck! I think a kleenex box has less drag.

Re: LS - LQ9 - LQ4 Engine Covers

I took the covers off of the LQ9 in my SS. I'd rather see an ugly engine than a pretty piece of plastic.

Re: LS - LQ9 - LQ4 Engine Covers

Hey there, super old thread i realize, actually came across this while googling ls coil covers and saw your copperhead orange truck and recognized it from youtube! I believe I have asked you this before on youtube on your page actually (this is directed at matthew20061) but what elbow are you using coming straight off your intake? I have a 4.8 in the current 53 GMC project and its TIGHT! I need either a very tight 90 degree elbow or one of those street and performance rectuangular ones that sit right in front of the throttle body (almost like the LT1's used to run alot). If you know where I can get a elbow like that I would greatly appreciate it!

You can get a elbow like that from Oreilly's is where I have found similar ones. I have one like that on my 57 Bel Air with a Ls2 intake and it works great! Search intake hoses on google and you should find some other options as well... Hope that helps!

Re: LS - LQ9 - LQ4 Engine Covers

I'm thinking I'll go back to an aluminum intake at some point. a single plane drilled for injectors, some nice looking fuel rails, and a 1000cfm throttle body sitting on top.....with an old school air cleaner from a carb setup.

Can't stand all the plastic!
