4l80e trans
I have a 56 and am putting a LQ4 and was wondering if there would be any issue squeezing a 4L80E trans in there? Feedback please.

Re: 4l80e trans
I had a 6.0 4l80e and sold it to get my 5.3 4l60e. The 4l80e is about 75 lbs heavier and WAY bigger. I would have had to cut a tunnel for it. The 60 fits under the stock floor. I also has a much deeper first gear and a way better O/D ratio. I know the 80 is stronger but you should consider the pros and cons of it.

Re: 4l80e trans
If TH400's and 350s fit it should fit. To use an electronic transmission you will need an aftermarket controller. Thats a 700 plus dollar item I think, maybe there are better deals.
Maybe the 4 speed trans floor plate maybe needed?? Last edited by dicer; 01-02-2011 at 07:46 PM. |

Re: 4l80e trans
Hey OKGMC4. Is it because you had to mount your engine higher because of the corvette install?
Has anyone put a 4L80e in a tri five? The 4L60e can only handle a certain horsepower. We are going for the 525 to 650hp range in two stages (of time and build) and want to make sure that we dont destroy something along the way. I hear that the 80 will handle that with out modification and is a good financial option. |

Re: 4l80e trans
I am running a lq9 with a 4l80e and had plenty of room, but I also have a chevelle front suspension. I am also using the factory ecm and had it reprogramed to shift the 4l80 and I am very happy with the way it drives and drive it daily to work.I am running 3.90 gears which seem to be a good compromise and my best 1/4 is 14.60 but that is with street tires and spun a lot.

Re: 4l80e trans
hey Wyomech
What year 4l80e did you go with? Did you have to use any converters or any type or was it the year of your engine? |

Re: 4l80e trans
I bought a used trans off of craigslist and was told it came out of a 2001 1ton truck that was 2 wheel drive. It is hooked to a 2004 6.0 out of a escalade, there are 2 different flex plates so make sure you have the right one,one is flat and uses a spacer with longer bolts and the other is dished in the middle. The stock converter is huge and must weigh about 75 lbs so using a 10 inch saves probably 20 or 30 lbs,I am running a Circle D that stalls about 2300 but it was a big improvement over the stock one.I got a lot of info off of the site ls1truck.com
