Another Junkyard thread...we all love 'em!
Me and my junkyard buddy Jtrux went to one of our favorite places again today. This yard is full of old vehicles of ALL KINDS and I'm talking about stuff from back in the 40s up to current models. The majority of vehicle, however, are 60s through early 80s. The problem is almost all of it is so picked over and not worth messing with. They don't rotate stock at all, just add new stuff here and there. Anyway, here are a few pics, many of them not 67-72 related, but fun to look at none-the-less.
I'll start with the Ford section and get it out of the way, saw a couple curios things... Mid 60s Ford truck "unibody"??? Did somebody fuse the cab and bed or is this something ford did??? Pile of mustangs anyone... The entire mustang row was like this... Power roll up rear window in a late 60s Mustang, never seen that before! Don't worry, the next post won't be from the Ford section. More pics in a minute.

Re: Another Junkyard thread...we all love 'em!
Here we are in the Jeep section.
327 V8 mail Jeep, everyone needs one of those! (Notice the 327 emblem, it does have a chevy v8 in it, not sure if its a 327 or not.) There were a couple CJs, but most were beyond any repair. Some interesting vehicles in the background. Josh (Jtrux) found this little gem. He couldn't wait and had to take it for a little test drive right then and there. Sometimes I don't know why I hang out with this guy! (he didn't really buy it, just could't resist posing for a pic) Next we'll move on to some GM stuff...

Re: Another Junkyard thread...we all love 'em!
Finally, Some Chevy stuff!
Here's HALF a Blazer, poor guy Lots of 67-72 trucks in the background. Like I said there are a bunch of cars from the 60s here. This was a real nice mid 60s Impala SS front end. I haven't seen many of these emblems in person... This was probably the nicest 67-72 we found. It was a recent addition from the way it looks. Some good sheetmetal on this one I think. Interesting shifter knob from a bus with a GM drivetrain. Anybody know what tranny it is??? Here was a good one at one time, unfortunately the SPID was about the only thing left on it worth looking at. I LOVE chrome emblems from the 50s! Well, there we have it. I could have taken many more pics, just didn't feel like messing with it. There are a lot more 67-72 Chevy trucks, but to be honest most of them are of the "tree growing through the cab" quality. At the end of the day it turned out to be just a fun field trip, for the first time ever we walked away totally empty handed.

Interesting info on the Ford truck. It looked factory, but I just don't know much about the blue ovals.

Any chance the bus with the weird shift pattern was a C/50 with giant gauges?

Re: Another Junkyard thread...we all love 'em!
Let me see if I can put this all in one post... Those Ford Unibodies were offered in a couple few years. It was one of Ford's "better ideas",which makes for a pretty cool collectible truck. They offered the Flareside as well as a carry-over Styleside from the 58-60 trucks. I think there were plenty around at one time but most did not survive. They were known for having very little flex resulting in lifting of one rear wheel in not so rugged terrain. Remember Fords still had the old leaf/I-beam suspension up front. I'm sure it was an expensive way to build a truck, too. 4wds never had this bed.
Is this guy hoping to sell arts or just crush them? They are one step in the crusher by the way they are stacked. Hard to get parts (and not safe) and harder to get parts that aren't 1/2 crushed already. I think that bus has the Clark 5spd. 1st is lo-lo,but it sure is a journey to 2nd. I enjoyed the pics. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Another Junkyard thread...we all love 'em!
not to de-rail the thread but...
for some reason I can't get the pics to show up but I saw the words "FORD UNIBODY" and my eyes lit up. This is mine, (yes yes-I know we're on a Chevy site). It's a '62 with a straight six and a 3-speed. It's rides decent for a 49 year old truck with stock suspension. |

That's the thing with this guy, it's a fairly large yard, much bigger than these pics let on. I don't think he wants to sell OR crush anything. He thinks everything is worth twice its weight in gold so it just sits there and rots away. I would say most of the stuff has been there at least 20 years. When you do find something worth buying and ask for a price he throws out a number that will make you choke. Jtrux has left parts on the counter and walked off in the past vowing to never come back. We should have known better than to go this time, but we were just looking around more than anything. For a junkyard lover, the scenery is pretty awesome! Clark 5 speed, huh? Is 5th an overdrive of some sort or is it a 1:1 with just more gears leading up to it. I'm guessing its a 1:1. Quote:

Ahh, that's my fault now that you say it. I have the pics in an album on my User CP, then I just copied the URL and inserted them here on the thread. You have to be signed in to see someones profile pics and albums. I will try to change them all so that guests can see them.
