CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
not mine, looks like its in WA somewhere. Someone should buy this!
http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/2171116815.html "$600 This is a 68 K10 long bed with a flat bed on it. The cab is cancer free!! This is a project truck, no doubt about it, but it is surely worth the effort for someone who knows about these trucks! No engine but has the transmission and transfer case in it still. Shoot me an email with some details of this ad, along with your general location (helps to weed out the spammers/harvesters), include a phone number if you would like. Thanks!"

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
I will agree we are lucky in the PNW.. And do count my blessings, these trucks grow on trees here.. they are litterly every where. BUT........ You never know what your going to find or what shape they are in as we have three distinct climates.. from the rusty ocean salt air (total rust buckets).. to the mild not as rusty inland..(some are good some are rusty) and the east side dry desert.. (dry not rusty)..
What I have been finding is if the truck is straight.. its rusty.. if its beat to death its rust free... |

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
I think the mid-central states/south states are lucky. Less rust to deal with. We might have a few trucks up here, but try finding one in good condition. I'm going to WA Sat or Sun for truck parts, so I think I'll stop by and check out the 4x4 and a 2wd down there. The gf might buy one or both for a project.

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
Yeah, everyone says California trucks are the way to go too, but on the coast, they are pretty rusty, just not underneath, but in the gutters/fenders/rockers, etc. You have to go inland a hundred miles or so before you start getting to the better trucks, but those are often old abused farm trucks, and they are all dented up. Seems to me eastern Oregon is the land of the preserved truck. JMO.

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
no doubt the trucks can be nice in new mexico, arizona, nevada but they didn't need 4x4's as much there so they seem hard to find there. Seems like there were/are many 4x4's in Washington and oregon.

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
I looked at several in Eastern Oregon and the valley. Like most places, rust was the common denominator.
I ended up buying one from the valley, and it was at least registered on the coast for a while. Only rust was in the bottom of the driver's door from a bad window seal and bottom of the right front fender from a plugged drain hole. You just never know without looking. |

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
the last 2 I bought for myself, one was from the Valley in western Montana, and the other was northern Nevada. Not near as much rust as we see here in Kansas

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
In the Northwest there are 2 common factors, Ocean salty air and rain.. = lots of rust.
Someone probably bought that truck east of the mountians and brought it to the area.

I'm checking it out tomorrow (Saturday) to see how it is. The gf wants it so we'll see. Might add it to the collection.

Re: CL find- 4x4 Pacific northwest
Well, we did some travelling around WA today...was a productive Chevy day Picked up a centre console for the '72 blazer, bought a '68 'burb and saw the '68 4x4.
'68 4x4 - Overall 99% rust free from what I saw. The doors need work though - either new skin or a good bit of body work, or replace with others. Needs a new dash...it was chopped up by the PO. No engine in it, trans/transfer are still there and should work. He's got a replacement hood for as the current one has a small hole in it. Frame looks good as well. Could be used as a parts truck or if you've got a parts truck already, you could make a one complete truck. PS: The truck should be home with me this coming weekend if all goes right. Just gotta get the paperwork done tomorrow. Last edited by dubds10; 01-24-2011 at 09:38 PM. |
