Thinking of going an inch lower
Hey everyone Im building a 74 c-10 with my gf and it already has a 4/6 drop. It has a flip kit in the back and 2.5 spindles with i belive cut coils or drop coils I cant tell. To me the springs look cut.
Anyways we have new leafs (no drop) and Im almost certian we are goin to need new coils as well and we are thinhking of going and inch lower front and back. Which would be better to do in the back 1" shackels or 1" blocks? Im thinking shackels. And in the front are 3" coils going to give us problems? We are also going from a 350 to a all iron 454 so the added weight is also a concern with the added drop.

Re: Thinking of going an inch lower
aren't the rear-ends mounted UNDER the leafs on those models? if so, then blocks won't help

Welcome to the forum creepy74. Its hard to recommend if your not sure what you have up front. Let me offer an overview and you can go from there. For the front I recommend 3" spindles, but the 2.5" you have will do. From there I suggest cutting one coil from a good stock spring, or a 2: drop coil. I "do not" recommend cutting more than one coil, or a 3" drop spring. Either one will get the job done but your ride will suffer. If you already have a flip kit in the rear, you should have a lowering shackle too. If not, that would be your next best option.

Thanks for the welcome my friends on Team Chevelle told me about this site. So the 4/6 is the lowest drop for a good ride is what your saying. I was looking at the front end the other day just seeing how the bump stop is close to the frame already. And there isn't even an engine in there yet. So once the engine is in it will settle down some. So that's why I asked if the 5/7 drop is a bit to much. Looks like we are sticking with the 4/6 drop. I'm positive she has 2.5 spindles. Is there a way to measure them so I can double check? This truck was hacked up when we bought it so I'm finding out the hard way what's been done to it on the few things we are keeping. Re: Thinking of going an inch lower
A 4/6 drop is a good drop. The problem is once you go 4/6 your going to wish you went 5/7 sooner or later. Its addicting, so consider doing it once and be done with it.
Take a look at the spindles and see if you can see what brand they are. Its hard to tell the dif between a 2.5 and 3 while installed. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Thinking of going an inch lower
I looked at the spindles as best I could without taking the wheel off. I did not find anything on them. I do remember seeing something on them when we where cleaning them for paint but I dont remember what I saw tho. I took a pic of the spindle maybe you can give me an educated guess.
BTW this pic is not the real ride hight. The engine and trans are NOT installed in the truck so everthing is sitting high.

Re: Thinking of going an inch lower
Just reading this thread, was going to a 4/6 drop myself, will I need to take off the rubber axle stops that are on the rear of the frame?
