64 Fuse Block

Turns out I need a new alternator. So after that is done I need to get the fuse block mended as well. From the picture it looks like I am missing a fuse clip on the bottom. Is there anywhere to get a replacement? Second problem. Nothing is connected!??? Does anyone have a picture of of their block? I am going to have to crawl under there and start fishing for wires. The only other wire i found was a black wire with alligator clips on both sides? not sure where it came from. All the wiring looks original and in tact. I am guessing the previous owner pulled all the wires from the fuse block shortly after the alternator went out.

I think you are ok-as-is, as I see it and your fuse box looks just like '65's.

The last "fuse" is for the tail lights / dome light.

Under that is a plug in connection for a spot light, you don't have one, therefore there is nothing there.

Again, as I understand it, that's the deal.

So the spade terminals next to the heater and radio fuses don't need wires?

Slightly off topic, but if a truck didn't come with a radio from the factory would the underdash harness still have the plug for one? or can you buy them seperately?

Does anyone sell a new fuse block like these? My terminals have gotten rusty and sometimes don't make a good contact.

So I have a question as well. I have a wire coming out of the B. U. LPS. This is a brown wire. Where does it go? My best guess is backup lamps but I don't have any on the truck ??

I believe that goes to the heater switch

I feel if some one has hacked up harness that bad.Me i spend the 399.00 for a brand new fuse box and under dash harness.To me I did mine 12 years ago spent 599.00 for everything.And not one problem never left me on the side of the road

I have everything working except instrument panel lights. I have no power on either side of the fuse. I turned the fuse panel around and don't see anything broken or disconnected. What am I missing?

Power for the instrument panel lights first goes through the "STOP TAIL DOME" fuse, then through an orange wire to the headlight switch. From there, it passes through a rheostat (variable resistor) that is used to adjust the brightness of the panel lights by rotating the headlight switch knob. After leaving the headlight switch, power goes through a green wire that takes it back to the "PANEL LTS" fuse in the fuse box. Finally, a gray wire runs from the other side of that fuse to the panel lights.

Since you don't have power on either side of the PANEL LTS fuse, the problem is most likely in the headlight switch rheostat. They have a tendency to get dirty / corroded and no longer make good electrical contact. Sometimes simply rotating the knob back & forth a few times will scrape off some light corrosion and get them working again. You could also try spraying some electrical contact cleaner on the rheostat portion of the switch (it's the part that looks like a coiled wire near the knob end of the switch). But if that fails, you'll probably have to replace the switch.

Note that if the problem were farther "upstream" in the circuit it would likely affect the brake lights, tail lights, and dome light too.
