4L80E Guys Come In
Fixing to start a 6.0/4L80E swap in my buddies 88 4x4 suburban. It has the mech speedo, what will I need to get to make this work? This is the 1st time I have messed with an 80e. I understand they need a vss input?

Re: 4L80E Guys Come In
The easiest way is to swap the cluster to a 90-91 electronic cluster, and run the VSS output into that. The only way I can think of to keep the original gauge would be to run something like a Cable X box.

Re: 4L80E Guys Come In
Does a 4x4 4l80e have the vss output on the tcase or is it in the trans? I would like to use the 208 and the stock cable speedo but I was thinking he might have a get a 91 np241 and a 91 cluster so we would have vss. I know the computer is going to need to know if it is in 4low or 4high to make the trans shift correct.

I don't 100% know. I can cehck with the trans guy at work to see what he thinks. Are you going LS in this one? If so, I think the VSS signal to the speedo comes from the PCM.

Yes going with a lq4. I know the pcm puts out the signal for the speedo but it needs the signal from a vss. I just went out and looked at a 95 and the vss is on the tcase on it. Looks like he needs a 241 and a 91 cluster.

Re: 4L80E Guys Come In
That's probably the easiest. Should solve a couple of your issues.
