Re: Wood Bed

Cool idea. There'd be some fab work at the front, back, and sides to fit it or you could possibly use one of the overlay style kits....

Re: Wood Bed

iI would bedrafty when the top is on. But theres nothing stopping you from putting one over the steel just like a hardwood floor in your house... maby some base boards, crown mouldings...

Re: Wood Bed

I think that it would be cold and drafty. Maybe lots of exhaust fumes? I would worry that losing the weight of steel would make the truck a little more prone to flex??? It would look pretty sweet though.

Re: Wood Bed

I like the idea. It would look good without a back seat.

A person might get away with putting thin strips of wood in the valleys of the corrugated steel floor, to make the floor level. Then lay down real thin boards or thin oak veneered plywood over the top and add the stainless strips. This would keep the noise and exhaust out. How you clean the ends up would make or break the look

Re: Wood Bed

not an overlay...

hardest part is to route out the forward outside to get it to sit level and if you use a '73 and up rear crossmember there is a notch there that the wood sits in and has existing bolt holes that line up perfectly for the metal strips

pics will take awhile

Thanks, couldn't find a steel bed anywhere, about 6 months after I put the wood in, a green one shows up in Jersey for sale...go figure

Anytime, stay on 202 north for about 1/2 hour then make a left at the Wm. Penn Inn, can't miss it, it has thounsands of white lights lite 24/7
