Engine Mods...
What do I do to a 283? Want Possibly a NEW CAM, new heads. Your ideas. Thanks. Not trying to make it a hotrod, but want to play around without destroying gas mileage. Thanks.

the most cost effective way to increase power would be to swap to a 350. 283's were fine and wonderful in there day but dollar for dollar you are throwing money away trying to upgrade your 283 when a stock 350 will likely outperform it. Even a cam considered small will act big in a 283 most cams power bands and characteristics are advertised based on a 350. If your set on keeping the 283 throw a cam intake and headers at it. Upgrading the heads is pretty much a waste because the engine isnt big enough to take advantage of the extra flow

But what would be the best engine for a daily driver?? The PO said his 350 drank gas like crazy. Not looking for a ton of power...just driveability. Thanks..

350's can be had that don't eat that much fuel. But if you are driving a 4,000 pound truck, A 283 will require more right foot to get going. probably eating more fuel than a stock 350.
