Brake light wiring question 65
When I got this truck the rear wiring had been removed. I have the truck down to the frame and am installing rear bolt in c-notch. I did not see a spot where the brake lights grounded to the rear frame. Maybe I am just not seeing it or maybe they arent grounded there, so the question is where do the brake lights ground? I need to know because if they do in fact ground to the frame I need to leave some exposed metal between the notch and frame so not break continuity unless someone else has different ideas.

Re: Brake light wiring question 65
I'm pretty sure the 8 large bolts that hold the bed to the frame are supposed to provide the ground.

Re: Brake light wiring question 65
i confirm, thats how mine is setup. Since the truck bed is metal and bolted to the frame its grounded. The tail light housing or mounting screws act as the ground for the bulb housing.

That being said then i should leave bare metal between the bed floor supports and the perches on the frame then I am guessing.

Re: Brake light wiring question 65
The best way is to run a seperate ground wire from the tail light to the frame. A bad ground creates a multitude of gremlins.
What I do is drill and tap a small hole in the frame, use a crimp on eyelet on the wire, slather a small bolt with neversieze and then bolt the wire to the frame. Last edited by lakeroadster; 04-05-2011 at 10:26 AM. |

Re: Brake light wiring question 65
I made separate grounds for the lights with eyes and attached to the back of the light at the mounting bolts. Attached to the frame which is grounded up front and works great!
