Intro and Question Trans Hard shift?
Hi All
My name is Rob Mannon, and I am new to this board. I live just outside nashville Tn, and have been a motorhead from birth. I purchased a my first square this weekend, and am stoked about the resto. I do have one concern that is over my head. I have an 87 SWB 350/700r. When I put it into gear (f or r ) it SLAMS, and when shifting from 1-2 it is pretty hard but bearable. My main concern is the when I put it in gear. Any thoughts? BTW I have joined forums before for my other rides and this one has more info and pictures than any of the others. Re: Trans Hard shift?
Hello Rob. Welcome to the boards.
My brother in law had the same problem with a 700r4 after a rebuild. The problem was a sticky governor. Luckily in his case, it fixed itself after driving it bit. I'm sure some transmission gurus will chime in with some good advice for you.

Re: Trans Hard shift?
welcome abaord ! I live in Clarksville when I'm on the side of the planet.
a few question's: does the truck seem to idle high ? are the Ujoints in good shape ? have some one hold the brake with the truck off and in nutral, see if there is any slack in the Ujoints.

Re: Trans Hard shift?
It does seem to idle high, but the 1-2 shift put me off of that trail. I guess there could be two issues in one. What would cause it to idle high vacuum leak? Tps? It has been so long since I have had fuel injection that I can't remember the quirks.

Re: Trans Hard shift?
Your RPMs are too high. Check the timing. Reset it to zero. You can add a few degrees for performance. Check for engine codes. You'll find great TBI info here http://www.cfm-tech.com/GM_tbi_tuning_tips.htm
