s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
I would like to know if this configuration would work on an s10 frame swap. I have the stock rear end, not the 4x4. I don;t have a problem with tubbing, I just want to make sure that there is clearance and that it would look decent. Maybe someone has this setup and could post a pic of how it looks. The truck is at stock height, no lowering blocks or anything.
Front: rim: 18x8 5x127 Offset 0 tire: 245/40/18 Rear: 20x8.5 5x127 Offset 7 tire: 275/35/20 thanks for any help. |

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
Im not sure if 0 offset is centered and what that 7 offset is. But 18x8 and 20x8 should look pretty good provided you have the right offset. Here is a couple of pictures of mine with 20x8.5 with 6.25bs and 20x10 with 4.75bs.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
I ordered up my rims last week with the minimum backspacing for the fronts at 4.00". With yours being 6.25", how close are you to the frame/a-arms with the tires while turning? I bought one of those Percy's wheel simulator thingamajigs and sure hope it is acurate when the rims are $3500.00! I used one of your truck photos to photoshop in my wheels to see what they look like. Very nice truck by the way.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
I am planning on running 245/40R-20 in front on a 20x8.5 and 295/40R-20 on a 20X10. I may go to a 305 in the rear as I have 2" wider rear fenders. I had to modify both inner fenders to to my custom headers, so I am a bit worried. I guess if worse comes to worse I can add a spacer if I have to. I like the tucked in look of the front wheels like on your truck. You have that thing nailed buddy.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
The pictures are of the truck at ride height. The truck has airbags and will go much lower than pictured. As for the tires they are 245x45x20frt and 295x45x20rear.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
When i had my stock 2wd s-10 it measured around 54.5" hub to hub. From what ive seen most 4wds are around 59". The rear axle in my truck is around 58"

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
At close to stock height I don't think you will have any real problems. Most of the guys have to run spacers on the front to get a more standard size tire out to where it looks right and doesn't set in too far.
The info I found says that the 2wd S-10 rear axle is 53-5/8 wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface while the 4x4 axle is 60 inches mounting surface to mounting surface. I've never measured what my tires are outside to outside but I have about a half inch clearance between the fender lip and the sidewall. I have 255-60x15 on 8 inch rims on it now with a mid 70's Nova axle. With the axle width and the wheel/tire info you should be able to figure the total outside width or what it would be fairly easily by laying a straight edge across the sidewall and measuring from the wheel's mounting surface to the straightedge multiplying that x 2 and adding in the axle width. |

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
If you can tell me what back spacing you are going with i will help you all that i can with the set up Also if youre going to lower the truck or not makes a big difference in wheel/tire setup as far as how it looks and how it performs.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
not lowering the truck...won't be able to get it out of my crazy driveway. as for backspacing, I don't have a clue. I just found out backspacing is different from offset. haha

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
You ever considered air bags? With air bags you could get out of youre crazy driveway As for measuring backspace all you have to do is get a straightedge and lay across the back of the rim (not the tire) and measure down to the mounting surface. This will get you pretty close.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
thought about airbags...but $$$ is tight.
thanks for the backspace instructions, dumb question... so I assume I can measure the current backspace of my 15" rims and then add the difference from the edge of the fender to the front of the rim to figure out what I would need for the new rims/spacers for the look I want? |

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
I bought mine from Discount tire, Dunlop signature series I went with a 255/35/20 on the 20X10 and 225/40/18 on the 18x8. They were really good on price and they had a rebate to boot.

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
with a stock s10 rear will I need spacers, or is there a way to figure that into the backspacing of the rim?

Re: s10 swap...rim/tire configuration???
You can figure that in, it all depends on the wheels you want. I could have gotten American Racing Torq-Thrust and had many different choices on backspacing, but the price was CRAZY!!!!! So I decided to get the Boss 338's instead for half the cost.
On back I began w/ the original 2wd s10 rearend but had to run 2 inch spacers. The gear ratio was not what I wanted so I went and bought a 4x4 rearend w/ a better ratio. The 20x10's are 20mm offset w/ a backspace of 6.225. Up front 18x8's are +2mm offset w/ a 4.517 backspace. I am running 2 inch spacers on the front. Here's a picture of the truck in which I feel in love with the wheels notice the deep offset. I think it's on a S10 chassis too. |
