Transmission? problems

Got to drive the truck for the first time. Reverse worked just fine no issue at all. Forward wasn't quite as good. Something was shaking the entire truck. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

Re: Transmission? problems

The 74 used a SM465 4 speed. It has a larger front retainer where it fits in the bell houseing. Is the face of the trans flush up to the bell housing? If the shaking is when you are engauging the clutch its a clutch problem. If it is after the clutch is engauged then it is probably a driveshaft problem.

Re: Transmission? problems

Trans is flush with bell housing. Only acts up when in a forward gear. As soon a.s it is popped back out of gear it is fine. Talked with some gearheads at work and we came up with the conclusion that it might be severely low on gear oil. Will have to check and report back. The people at the local parts store already know me by name courtesy of this old monster.

Re: Transmission? problems

take a look at your U-joints as well. i had a U-joint going bad in my truck and under acceleration it was fine but deceleration it shook the truck to the point of no return, then when i would take it out of gear it would stop doing it.
