Dana 70 and 70hd Use different gear sets?
Looking on Ebay(and the net in general) for gearsets for my Dually with a 70 hd...but all I am finding are Dana 70 ring/pinions....but 70 and 70hd master bearing/install kits. do they use the same gearsets? And best I can tell- a 3.54 is the highest gear I can find for it, is that tall as they get?
I'd like to be able to pull my car at 75-80 at about 23-2500 rpm....possible with a non OD trans?

Re: Dana 70 and 70hd Use different gear sets?
There are a bunch of variations of 70s out there, not sure what is different from one to the other. I know one of the model 70s that was put in the early Cummins trucks had 3.08s in them.
Check out Summit Racing or Ring-pinon.com, might be able to find the difference there.

Re: Dana 70 and 70hd Use different gear sets?
Dont hold me to it, but I'm pretty sure that the early cummins had whats called a dana 71 to house the 3.08's because of clearance inside the 70 housing. I know the fronts with 3.08's were actually a dana 61. Ring gears from a 60 will not fit in a 61, so i'm goin to assume that goes the same for the 70/71. I am fairly certain that any 70 gear set will fit in any 70 case. The differences are in the external bearing sizes. So you will want a bearing kit from a 70hd
