1972 GMC Sierra long bed 2wd to 4wd project(need answers)
I have an all original 120,000 mile truck, its a 1/2 ton long bed.I am wanting to convert it from 2wd to 4wd,but I don't want to remove the cab from the existing frame. 73 - 87 4x4s r plentiful.my question is if I find one can I use 73 to 85 spring hangers front n rear n all 4x4 components and them mount right up ? Any answers woukd b greatly appreciated thanx

don't know about trying the later year stuff. I have been doing some research myself on a 4wd conversion. front springs are shorter on a 72 than a later model. rear springs are wider and frame is wider in that spot I think, putting your spring perches out to wide for your frame.

I have a full set of 1972 K5 Blazer Frame Hangers that I will let go cheap, $200.00 plus shipping. They were off a California truck being converted to 2WD so they are in great shape. I was going to convert from the '66 style with grease pins but decided to keep the stock hangers and suspension type.

With some minor modification you can use everything from the front of a 73-87 4x4 to convert yours to 4x4. I have a buddy that has done this. One huge benefit of doing this is you get better motor mounts and the longer front springs are plentiful.
