Crossover steering questions.
I am getting ready to convert my truck over to cross over steering. I have the 2wd steering box, but it needs to be rebuilt. Ive done a little bit of research but have come up empty handed.
First question is how hard is it to rebuild a steering box? Somewhere along the line I picked up that you have to change the steering shaft little joint thing to a u joint style one? I need to know which one because of the splines. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Crossover steering questions.
I dont know about the rebuild, I bought a reman cardone unit when I did mine..I'm sure someone will chime in with what you need to know. I do know you dont have to change the splined stub..you can still run your stock intermediate shaft or you can buy splined u-joints from companys like Borgeson, Flaming River or Iditit. I do believe its a good idea to get rid of the rag joint though..I went with a Borgeson vibration dampining joint and could tell a Big difference.

Re: Crossover steering questions.
I have rebuilt one in my 85 that I had built and as long as you are careful and do it correctly you can. You do need to be mechanically inclined though

Re: Crossover steering questions.
Thanks for the impute. I have the ability to do the rebuild as far as being mechanically inclined but I also see Jerrys point too. This is going to be my daily driver for a while and I don't want to risk it.
Blazerman- That is exactly what I needed to know. I'm going to check into one of the vibration units you mentioned. Can you tell me which one is the right one? If anyone else has anything on this please let me know.

Thanks for the pic. Is that a stock pittman arm for a 2wd? I have a Dodge one that will give me about two inches of drop. I heard some were that it will fit but I haven't tryed it yet.

Re: Crossover steering questions.
No it is not. It is out of a Big Jeep, Wagoneer. Ya know the big famly jeep wagon. I don't remember the year. WFO hooked me up with it. Had to drill open the TRE hole too fit 1Ton Chevy TRE.
I have a very low lift and I am running Crossover/Highsteer so the GM 2x4 arm was too long.. WFO Concepts made the Crossover/Highsteer PSC Motorsports made the Hydro Assist Works Awesome = one finger steering in the rocks (If I wanted too)

Re: Crossover steering questions.
Haha, I have the same problem with my 35s, the front two are like brand new and the rears are about half tread.

Re: Crossover steering questions.
Im almost positive I read/heard that Jeep Cherokee XJs steering shaft (which has u-joints) will work to replace the rag joint. I need to verify...cause Ive got about 8 of them for sale...
