Re: cpp tilt
I'm not sure if were talking about the same thing but I just bought the 67-72 tilt/auto trans one this past weekend. Haven't installed it yet(will this weekend) but so far it looks OK. Definitely not as nice as a ididit or flaming river but when you look at all the features it has(illuminated range indicator, tilt, powder coated, 3 and 4 speed indicator inserts) and the fact that it comes with all the knobs/handles, all the seals and the cancel cam/horn ring and spring for less than half the price I figured it was worth a shot. I'll let you know how well it fits this weekend.

Re: cpp tilt
I bought the auto tilt and its a little shady, the indicator plate looks like a three year old made it, the hold down for the indicator plate doesnt line up with the screw holes, the bearing ant the bottom doesnt look right cant tell if the insides are grinding when I turn the wheel.
You wont have my issues with a 4 speed tilt but,,,,,you never know about the quality until it arives. I have an GM auto tilt that I bought that was twice the price but its twice as nice...... Smitty

Re: cpp tilt
OK, got mine installed today so heres my opinion. I think its made in China since it has alot of quality control problems typical of China made stuff, but most of the problems are with the shift mechanism and wouldn't apply to a manual trans column.
Like 71meangreenc10 said, the indicator assembly is low quality. I was able to get the indicator to work well(the pointer points at the correct place in all gears) but I have a adjustable shift linkage and it took some fiddling to get it right. When I first I first installed the shifter it wouldn't come out of park. It took some massaging with the dremel on the handle to get it to work. The interlock system is a bit sloppy so when it pops into each range it doesn't feel as nice as a rebuilt OEM or high quality aftermarket Column. The hazard switch on mine is very hard to operate, to the point where it feels like its going to break it and 2 of the 3 screws that attach the switch to the column were loose. On the plus side, the fit was nice, the powder coat finish is nice and the tilt mechanism works well. Overall, its cheaper and it shows it but it is a functional column and I think especially in a manual trans set-up its a viable option for a driver type truck and the price is right. If you're putting it in a 67 or a 68 there's a few things to keep in mind though. It uses the 69-later flat style electrical connector for the signal switch but adapters are available. Also if I'm not mistaken, the splines for the steering wheel and possibly the steering shaft in 67-68 are different from 69-later and this column has the later style so the 67-68 factory stuff might not work so well with it. I put it in my 67 but since Im going to use a aftermarket wiring harness, steering shaft and steering wheel these were all non-issues for me. |

Re: cpp tilt
I'm glad I ran across this thread. I'd be on the fence about ordering one of these. Think I'll just spend the coin and get a rebuilt one from the forum.

Actually man if you want the stock look, Ididit offers a "retro Fit" line which look very close to stock for our trucks and though they are proud of them they are actually only a couple dollars above what the CPP one costs. I have been looking at column shift versions and came across them... |

Re: cpp tilt
I have a CPP column that I bought a while back off the board. It looks to be a quality piece, but it uses the later flat type turn signal connection. It is the same length and in overall appearance looks just like the factory tilt I am pulling to use it for. The truck it is going in is being sold and I would rather save the truck tilt, so I guess therein lies the true answer.

Re: cpp tilt
well i guess i will go ahead and get a rebuilt column off one of the forum members..its my understanding that the van tilt is shorter than a truck tilt..does this mean that it will give me more "gut" room..or is it on the other end..?

Re: cpp tilt
Can't someone who has a CPP column take a picture? This all seems like worthless info to me until I can actually see for myself how much they look like OEM. I didn't think the Flaming Rivers looked all that different in floor shift. And,I know they are top quality.

Re: cpp tilt
Ok,
Heres the pics, Pic one shows the CPP indicator, not to quality if you ask me. Pic two shows the finish, its quality. Pic three shows the bearing, hard to get a pic with the booster in the way but its slanted at the bottom, not slush. Pic four shows the GM tilt bearing, nice and straight. Pic five shows the GM indicator. Smitty

Re: cpp tilt
Need to buy Ididit coulmns they are made in the USA and have a lifetime warrantty and have all gm internal parts in them and there quality is 100% and if you are not happy with it they will send you one out to you for exchange. They have specifice made coulmns for your truck you have and it is a bolt in application.
The down side is they are alot more money than ones you are talking about but you have to pay for quality. For the best DEALS on Ididit p/m me or e-mail me at email justin@scottshotrods.com email.I have KILLER DEALS and very fast shipping. Justin Last edited by Scottshotrods; 06-05-2011 at 06:25 PM.
