Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
could you take a few measuements for me, 1. how tall is your wheel and tire combo over all ? 2. are you laying frame or rocker? 3. can you measure over from the engine side of the tire to the inner side of the fender (like lay the tape on top of the tire to measure accross) does that make sense ? if you have time to do that i would appreciate it, thanks Mike

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
here are some more pics of mine to help
my truck lays frame with 1 and a half inches of the bottom of the frame cut off. so it sits lower than a similar truck laying frame without the bodydrop. I have a 30 inch tall wheel combo. also, my crossmember has been narrowed 2 inches so my wheels are in pretty far.

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
my whole crossmember was moved forward 1 inch. my tires are about 2mm away from hitting the firewall, but only when the truck is completely laid out.

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
so the inner fenders at the area where the firewall bends under need to litterally almost touch the firewall ??? correct ??

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
yeah, you should make them as thin as possible there. anyone who doesn't move the crossmember forward is going to hit no matter what anyways, unless they run like a 20inch rim. pretty much everyone that lays out via dropmember or z'ed frame is gonna move the crossmember forward anyways.

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
81-87 are different than the 73-80 inner fenders.
What size 22's are you using for your info?

Seems like the 81-87 inner fenders are "flatter" on top. I thought there was a thread on here where someone was installing 73-80 inners in a 81-87 truck, because they were taller. (more "round" on top, and it gave them more tire clearance with a dropped truck)

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
Max 22" tire sizes according to Tirerack.com:
30 Series: 285/30-22 (28.9" tall) 35 Series: 265/35-22 (29.1" tall) 285/35-22 (30.1" tall) 40 Series: 265/40-22 (30.5" tall) Any of these tires sizes should be good to use?

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
Do you have access to a set of stock 73-80 inner fenders to try?
It would be nice to know if one set of tubs would work from 73-87. Maybe someone close can donate a set of rusty inner fenders to help with the "research and development" phase of this.

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
The 73-80 and 81-87 inners are defiantly different. They can be swapped but they are not a direct fit. I know for a fact where they attach to the core support are different, I think one of the bolts to the cab itself are different also. To sell these as an aftermarket product I would suggest that you make two different styles for the 73-80s and 81-87s.

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
i appreciate the info, i need to get a set of the inners for the earlier ones and see, if it is just one or two holes that line up different i could just make them universal and have both bolt patterns on them maybe ???

Re: under hood pics layed out on 22s
Would definitly be a place to start. I put some 73-80 inners in my static dropped 86, I read here on the forums they have more tire clearance than the later ones, and they do! It was much less of a direct bolt on than I had anticipated though. They fit and fit ok, but if they were something I bought that was supposed to fit right out of the box instead of something I already had laying around, I wouldn't be to happy. Good luck with the latest venture. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
