tank capacity and compressor mounting...help!
Working on my 95 suburban and we're finally looking into the air setup (mounting portion). I have a dakota digital controller, accuair manifold, 2-480 viair compressors and some options for tanks (1- 10gal tank, 2- 5gal tanks, 2- 3gal tanks).
Tank size or air capacity -I know the burb is bigger than average, but i don't intend on raising and lowering the truck excessively. Is 6 gallons enough are? The 2- 3gal tanks would mount nice and neat inside the truck without losing much cargo area. the other tanks could fit, but won't mount as nicely as the smaller ones. I'm just wondering. we've discussed starting with the 2- 3gal and adding a 5gal if needed later. if we do that, i think i may build/modify a center console to have in the truck. Compressor mounting - can you mount compressors upside down? I've seen them mounted a lot of ways, but usually it's at an angle or upright. for me upside down would be easier, so again i was wondering. Any advice is good advice.

Yes, 6 gallons is enough. It would not hurt to have more, but a 6 gallon set up will give you one full lift with a bit left over. Most manufacturers of compressors suggest you do not mount them upside down. They will work, but the heat rises to the motor and will shorten it's life.

Have you seen the new Accuair EXO mounts. They look clean and easy and take out the guess work.
I think this is the route I would go. |

Re: tank capacity and compressor mounting...help!
i've seen them, but i'm working to still have a 3rd row in the burb. Having the 3rd row complicates mounting the air system. also, i would think for sound the compressors need to go outside the truck (no bed or trunk to help muffle them with a suburban).
I limit my frame options with a kp 4link and cantilever setup. my brother is pretty good with metal, so i'll see what we can come up with. i think upside would be easier, but something tells me i should come up with something better (comps aren't cheap). Thanks for the replies.

You do NOT want the compressor in the interior with you. Mine is mounted at the rear of the truck under the bed and it's still too loud.

Re: tank capacity and compressor mounting...help!
I have my air lift 380 compressor mounted in the back of our burb behind the side pannel's. I do not find it too loud inside. My 5 gallon tank in the 68 burb seems to do well.
