Diversification is good!!

I went to look at a parts truck for my Dropmember project this weekend. While I was there the seller asked me if i was interested in looking at a 65 he had out in the barn. Being the idiot that I am, I said why not?, I love looking at all things automotive. Big mistake!

What I found was a 69,000 mile longbox 65 chevy. It is an old farm truck so it has some rust/dents. However, not too bad for this part of the world. The cab has a bad corner on the pass side and that is all. there is absolutely no rust in the floors or rockers (that I could Find). The box has 4 little rust spots over the wheelwells from where the supports attach, as well as a few dents. The doors are rust free. The worst part about the truck is the front clip. It is a different color ( previous accident?) The fenders are shot and so are the tops of the inners. Hood is perfect.

Powertrain is a 230cid/3 in the tree. The interior is amazing, a few rips in the seats and the rubber floor mat is cracked.

Current plans are to replace the heated coils with proper lowering springs, make sure all mechanicals are safe and roadworthy and drive it! I've been wanting a relatively stock driver for awhile. I think this one is perfect.

In the end I paid $1500.00 for it. Being as I'm not that familiar with this generation chevy, I hope it was a smart buy. Oh yeah, I bought the parts truck as well, It's a runner with an I6. Here are some pics, i'll post up better ones when I pick it up later today.

Nice score! I paid nearly that much for mine and it was in a lot worse shape than what that looks like.

Re: Diversification is good!!

Here is some more pics. Since getting her home I have cleaned her thoroughly. I went through the brake system and changed the oil. Now I am just driving it. The three in the tree has taken some getting used to. I've put about 200miles on her so far with no issues.

You did very well on the purchase! You're also a man after my own heart, I always clean things immediately after I buy them too; no matter what condition they are in.

p.s. My girlfriend is from Medicine Hat. I really liked Alberta when I visited.

Re: Diversification is good!!

I sold it! Although I loved driving the truck, I was able to double my money. It was pretty hard to say no. The funds will definately help get my shortbox on the road sooner

I don't know why I missed this post a month ago, but I wish I would have seen it then. I am wanting good pics of ORIGINAL gas tank covers for reference. They almost NEVER survive in any kind of decent shape. Got any more pics you are willing to share? PM me please!

I never even knew they had gas tank covers until just this last winter when I saw one on a gmc in a wrecking yard. It was pretty much shot.

Let me check my other computer, I will send you anything that I have. Too bad, the cover looked almost new.

Thanks for the photo!
It's hard to tell exactly how they were originally fit into place because most all have suffered the effects of gravity over forty five years. What appears now as a soft rolled corner, may just be sagging cardboard.?? Were they crisply formed with straight hard corners, or just loosely bent to tuck into the sides of the cab? Can you tell?
The reproductions are lacking creases and give no directions or even suggestions on how to install them properly.

Bummer! From the looks of the little piece that shows in your floor picture, it appears to have been one of the best preserved that I've seen. Thanks for trying.
