Factory A/C question

I'm starting to assemble the missing parts from my A/C set-up on my '64. Everything behind the dash is missing, including the heater box on the engine side of the firewall. I have bought 2 non-A/C heater boxes for parts, and hope to find an A/C specific one in the future.

My question is: Could the standard OR deluxe heater be ordered with the A/C, or did that option automatically require the deluxe version? My '64 has dealer-installed factory A/C, and I'm just trying to piece the puzzle back together. My heater controls appear to be standard. The truck is at a buddy's house, so I can't investigate until this coming weekend. In the meantime, here's a picture of the dash, taken when I first bought the truck:

Any help, pictures, or reference material would be greatly appreciated. I have a line on an incomplete A/C set-up, but I want to do my homework first before I commit to buy it.

Re: Factory A/C question

Either heater may use dealer-installed AC(which was nearly identical to the factory AC), the only diff being the cool pull cable you picture. The '64 accessory installation manual has all the details. The recirc door was added to either heater box.

I agree, you'll need to get a factory assembly manual or GM parts book. However, the factory assembly manual is more descriptive with pictures.

Re: Factory A/C question

Thanks, Jim!!!! Those scanned pictures are GREAT!!!!!! I have the '64 factory supplemental manual and although it has a small section dedicated to the A/C, the pictures are nothing like that.

What manual did those pictures come out of? I HAVE to get that manual because I'm going to restore the A/C unit, and those pictures are a treasure trove of information.

Thanks again, Jim. Those are awesome.
