How to go topless

I'm looking for ideas to make a top come off with one person
thinking handles on the outside would work(two each side) would be good for two people
since my buddy can't lift to high then maybe using ropes then to the handles,
some how lifting the top by myself
also thinking someway to lift, jacking up cap from in the bed to slide saw horse type stands in under the cap lips then drive out or back in.....
or how do you do it

Provided you have a shop or garage. You could screw 4 eyebolts into the rafters, 2 on each side. Then use 1 inch wide ratchet straps hanging off each eyebolt. Place the hook just under the lip fore and aft on each side and ratchet it up. You could do much the same with a rope and pulley system.

What he said. If you can't do this in a garage use a tree. But I wouldn't drill the top, they're not making any more of them.

no no holes,yup bad idea
simple lift onto a saw horse
make ones with those orange ajustable brackets like for painting
pushing up from inside should work, slide a board threw

Re: How to go topless

On my old 76 I took it off myself. Slid it back on the bed rails until I could tip it off and lower it. Pretty sure I used a hand truck to move it around after that.

Now I have a 91 and the top seems to be a lot heavier than the old one. I don't know if they are different, but I wouldn't try it with the current top. Maybe I got a lot weaker over the past 5 years

Re: How to go topless

1-drive between a few saw horses,
2-slip a few 2x4's across under the top, over the saw horses
3-deflate air ride
4-drive out!

I made this from an old ping pong table and some scrap plywood.Makes it nice to be able to take it off by myself and move it around.

Yeah buddy. That's what I'm talkin about. Just be careful walking in there when the top's hanging and no lights on.
