Are you sure its the guages that are dirty and not the plastic lens?

whitefacegauges.net

I ended up removing the blank sticker in the lower left hand and I went with the super blue LEDs . it was a nice upgrade. I would recommend that you paint the inside a metallic chrome so that it would be brighter. (tip i read in another post)
I'll take some pics at night .

Simple 'gloss white' reflects as much or more light rays than any rattle can 'chrome'.

Was gonna post the same thing. Unless you are using something like alsa's mirrachrome, a gloss white is better. And usually can be bought for cheaper than the "chrome" spray paint.

Could you post a direct link to the gauges and leds you used? I looked but couldn't find them for my 83.

There are "10" "194" bulbs in the back of the gauge cluster.
I dont know what they are in LED. Hope that helps.

Here's what I did to mine to get the glow i was after on mine. I used blue LED light strips from www.v-leds.com

I used these adaptors from v-leds to simply plug them into the factory sockets.

Re: help my guages work but are nasty and old looking

Just came home from work today and they had finally arrived, i went with white background with blue LEDs, I was wondering how much of a difference it makes to paint the inside white. I see that alot have done it but i just wanted to know if it really made a noticable difference? Thanks guys i had to hurry and put them in to see how they look, had a few little air bubbles under the stickers that i mostly got worked out (i also cant tint windows because air hates me lol) its not dark out yet but i think i like em

If it really helps ill be pulling them back out and painting it all white inside there lol

Re: help my guages work but are nasty and old looking

it makes a huge difference to paint the inside.
I'll take a pic tonight for sure, but i used chrome paint instead of the recommended white. I should have used white.

Mine are not as bright as Ble Burban's but he has alot more leds in those strips than I have on the individual bulbs that i got from whiteface gauges
