1979 c30 1-ton

quick question easy answer I would assume, I used search but still am not 100%

What rear did a 79 c30 1 ton come with? Would I be correct in assuming a 14-bolt ff?

more importantly, is this the SAME 14bolt they used in the heavy 3/4 ton trucks?

Is it a single rear wheel? It could be a 14 bolt FF, or it could be a Dana 70. Not sure what other rear ends might have come with those trucks, but I am sure someone on here can chime in and help.

Thanks, the reason I need to know is because I want to try lower my k20 and get rid of the 4wd because I really just don't want it. I'm going to swap the front xmember with one out of a c20 and put coils and a drop spindle in. I definitely have a 14bolt ff in the rear and would like to try and keep that if possible as I want 8-lug all around.

As far as I know the c20 has a different rear, but If the c30 1 ton has the same rear then I can use a flip kit built for that from sport truck direct.

All C20's had a 14bolt from factory, the only differance is if it is semi-float or full-float and that does not matter when lowering.

Being a 79 it won't have the semi float. Perch location, I think shock mounts, and brakes are the differences between 3/4 ton full float and 1 ton.

A single tire 1 ton will have a 14ff, dually will have a Dana 70. Cab and chassis will have the narrow 14ff.

Yep it is the same rearend as the C20, however as stated the perches are different. They won't interchange. The 1 ton uses different spring hangers than the 1/2 and 3/4 ton.

Wow okay thanks for the info! So then that means the kit for the c30 may not work?

I have 7 leaves in my pack including the overload, I think the c30 has 9 in all. So if the U bolts are too long I could always cut them down.

Are you guys saying the perches themselves are different or just the location of the perches? I've seen pictures of the perches on the c30 and they look very similar to what I have but It's quite possible they are different.

Looking at pics, the shock mounts are definitely different and even on the wrong side of the axle tube too.

I guess it's safe to say, the kit probably won't work without heavy modification, which defeats the purpose.

The location is different on a 1-ton, they set out more and the shocks are on the inside of the frame rails.
