66 p/s question

i just picked up a 66 c10 project that the previous owner had installed a 79 front end under, it has no steering box, i want to put p/s on it but not sure what all i need to do or what i need, also it still has a 6 lug rear, what would be the easest and cheapest way to convert to 5 lug on the rear? thanks and i love this site!!!!

Re: 66 p/s question

Did he put the center link from the 79 in there also. You can tell my looking at the idler arm. The 65 will bolt on straight up and the 79 will angle back. It he used the 79 link then you will just need a Rez kit and a steering box. I have all 75 year model stuff in my truck. Here are a few pics. And the last one is the kit. You can get one at Chevy Duty or now known as classic indutries or somthing or Capt Fab sells them also.

Re: 66 p/s question

im not sure about the idler arm, ill look when i got back to the shop, i do know that they just used the whole front end from the 79, cross member and all they just rolled the old one out and the 79 in, so i could just use the 79 idler arm and a 79 steering box with that kit? i really appreciate the info and pics!!

Re: 66 p/s question

I recommend using the complete '73-'87 steering linkage, idler arm and all. However to install the newer idler arm, you will need to locate the idler arm in position on the frame, mark the holes and drill new mounting holes.
