Manual Window Issue
I am having an issue with the passenger side manual window on my 84. It goes up and down, but it makes an awful grinding and squealing and it takes some muscle to crank.
It there some way to smooth this out??

Re: Manual Window Issue
Is it kind of jerky or is it a consistent motion? As long as it isn't jerky, then it probably just needs to be clean.
I would pull the door panel, spay WD40 to clean up the old caked up grease, and then spray some white grease on the window crank gears.

Re: Manual Window Issue
Might want to clean the track. Grease it up or wd40 could help.

Re: Manual Window Issue
No it is isn't jerky, just consistently like a grinding. I will have to take the panel off and clean it.
Does the panel come off easily? I realize it is just screws but what about the window crank and the handle to open the door?

Re: Manual Window Issue
Nothing to it, just screws and plastic push pins.
The door handle stays on the door (just removing the small panel behind the door handle). The window crank is usually just screwed on (one screw). The old caked on grease can be hard to remove, just soak it with wd40 or some other type of clean. I like to use the white grease afterwards.

Re: Manual Window Issue
The older trucks use a screw center handle. Our window crank has a special U shaped clip. Google "GM window crank clip".
There's a $3 special tool to remove it without gouging the crap out of the door panel and handle. It can be done with a hooked dental pick or a shop rag. |

Re: Manual Window Issue
Yep the shop rag trick was showed to me recently and it works well. Back in the day I bent a butter knife to get back in there and pop the clips off it was classy but it sure did the job haha Yep it aint all that hard just more time consuming. Just get it greased up real well and run it for a bit.
