What gears are good for towing my buggy its like 2000lbs or less i have 33" tires and last time i towed i over heated bad so im switching to a 3-4 core radiator but i still think it needs different gearing

Re: What gears for towing
What engine/trans/current gear ratio? What truck is it? The more info you give the better answer you get.

Engine-388 stroker
Trans-TH350 Gears-I think 3.23 Truck-85 chevy c-10 step side Seems when i had 4.11 gears it towed better but i cant seem to find them cheap so maybe 3.73?

Re: What gears for towing
I suggest 3:73 because you dont have OD. Get Yukon brand gears, better than stock and great quality.

Re: What gears for towing
With the 33's 3.73 will run about 2530 RPM at 65 MPH and the 4.11's about 2780. However I would check out the cooling system first, make sure there is no other problems before swapping gears. It shouldn't overheat as it sits now, a 2000# trailer isn't a heavy load.

Re: What gears for towing
Yea, I tow a popup camper with my Jimmy 4.3. Weight when load with gear is close 2000 lbs. The 3.42 gears do okay on the highway. 3.73 would be great overall gear.
